Am I crazy to think that $350 is too much to pay an audio shop to install an amp and speakers in my car...not including the A pillar tweeters? Not to mention the fact that he swears up and down that I need to buy an LOC in addition to this. Hey OEMRadio do you know of an S550 qualified audio installer in the DFW area that can do this for a reasonable price?

FYI...this is with me providing the amp, speakers and amp wiring kit.

Premium 400a. Having a 4 channel amp installed in the trunk, and new front 6.5, 3.5 and A pillar tweeters.

sounds reasonable to me... you will need a loc to interface the factory wiring to the amp.... ill break it down on what the shop i work at would charge.

amp install which includes running of amp wire and connecting to battery and amp $80

install door speakers which includes removal and reinstall of door panel(s) $60 per door.. so $120.

tweeter install if straight forward $30

Misc labor : putting sub in box.....securing sub......$80-120....

then add in the loc which could take a while depending on which way you go... so yes....350 is reasonable to me.... its not just a simple " throw wires in and go" install

hope this helps

I think I explained my end wrong. I was quoted $200 for the amp + any wiring. $75 for each door, so $150. Thats it for the $350. If I am wiring in RCA's from the wires running into the amp, I was under the impression that I would not need an LOC.

thats correct.. i still dont think its a bad price... if its a good shop.... you may think you are paying too much but if they do good work and take care of the car.. its worth it... IMO

That's a great price, actually. I'd charge that to do this in my garage, let alone it being done in a shop. Shop I moonlighted at would charge more because you're asking them to tap into the OEM low-level wiring, effectively bypassing the amp, which will require them to ensure everything works as expected and there are no issues caused by doing so.

Can always shop around.

Probably about par for the course these days at a halfway decent shop. You won't need a loc if bypassing/removing the factory amp.

This stuff isn't that hard to do, might want to just take a saturday and do it yourself. The only thing I see being a pita is getting under the dash to wire up the RCA's correctly.

I just got done doing it myself and man it is shitty work. I can see why shops charge what they do. And to get it done right, without damaging your car and sounding good; it's worth the money.

Got the two front doors done. The 6.75 mid woofer doesn't sound great, but I figured it wouldn't until the amp goes in to power it. The 3.5s make a big difference in clarity and high tones. That should be the first budget change for everyone.
