Ford raising V8 equipped Mustangs $165 for 2022, according to Ford Authority today. On top of the previously announced loss of 10 HP this amounts to a not so gentle kick in the teeth. I just hope the V8 never goes away.... what a loss that'll be!

Dealers charging $5-10k mark ups but let's talk about "Ford and One Hundred Sixty Five American Dollar's. If your wallet can feel a weight of One Hundred Sixty Five American Dollar's , I highly doubt that you can feel a difference of 10 HP other than on paper. Thanks for the time reading this.

Is history repeating itself 50 years later?
1970 was the pinnacle of the original muscle cars… then around ‘71 and ‘72, the horsepower started to dwindle.
I doubt it, but it makes for a great conspiracy theory to get folks theorizing, postulating, speculating, surmising, guessing, philosophizing, hypothesizing, and proposing on their theory!

This is definitely the greatest era of muscle in the history of cars currently…..!!!!

is it possible nothings actually changed, but the dyne equipment used or their calculations changed? I read about this happening. giving diff numbers from same engine for diff years.

While it does suck, I don't think the Mustang is the only one. Watching Doug Demuro on the new 2022 Civic Si - that also lost ~5hp from last year. CARB gonna CARB and EPA gonna EPA. As long as the power loss isn't HUGE and features aren't lost...I think it's alright. 450hp/410ft-tq isn't something to sniff at still. The weight on the other hand.....

With some of the markups I've seen though, I definitely would've passed. Even our $2k markup is a hard pass.

I don’t know and don’t care. Just me personally but there’s no way I’m buying a 22 with a 10 hp rating drop from 21. No, I likely couldn’t tell any difference but I’m not talking logic and reality here-its a mental thing. I’d think about it every time I got in the car.

I’m fully aware that a shrink would have a field day with this but again I don’t care. At least I’m honest enough to admit it.

No, there are physical changes.

"When asked what exactly was changed on the engine to meet these requirements, a Ford spokesperson clarified, “For 2022, the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 engine’s hydrocarbon traps were modified, with a new mass airflow sensor location and updated engine calibration.”

It won't be the same because electric cars will spank gas ones in performance and those are only getting better every year. Yeah, I prefer gas, but in the 70s there was nothing better to choose, just suckage.

If I order the 2022 I want I am not going to worry about a 10 HP drop on a car this heavy. If I want the 10 HP back I will just attach my snow thrower to it.

Just be glad Ford made the Mustang-E...it helps keep their V8s alive. Ask Dodge (Stella) about it...Hellcat's days are numbered. I just hope we can get someone in office that backs down the EPA BS soon.

Definition of 'performance' regarding gas vs. electric should take into account exhaust note. Driving quicker in a silent ev can't compare to a slightly slower V8 thundering down the road through the gears. The thrill factor is diminished. It's like a roller coaster ride for a deaf person.

what would happen if someone seriously got in office and said lets abolish all EPA, (not trying to be political) but could the next president even have the power to? or doesnt it still need to be done by congress/senate etc.

just like if someone wanted gas gone, they have to go through the procedures and if they dont agree, then stalemate. meaning, whatever gets done by 1 termer, can be twice as hard to eliminate right?

or maybe executive orders can be done, *OPEN ALL PIPELINES, NULLIFY EPA POWER NO EMISSIONS ETC* in a script of a pen. but next person could come in and undo it

One physical change it sounds like -- new MAF location. So where is it on 2021's vs 2022's? I can take pics under the hood of my '22 if someone has a stock '21 pic to show.
