Does anyone know of a front camera system that is compatible with the Sync system with the navigation? I found one system on American Muscle that is made by Raxiom for about $600. I don’t like the way the camera bracket mounts in the front. I would like the camera more hidden in the grill.
Judging from the reviews it also looks like the most of the dashboard would have to be taken apart, along with the front passenger’s tire to route the cables. I guess that’s normal for that type of installation though. Has anyone installed one of these systems in their car?
I just wanted to see if there were any other options out there. I am trying to prevent front end splitter and engine undercover damage. Any ideas might be helpful. Thanks

Back in whenever possible! especially at Sonic! Those Kerbs eat HP splitters...ask me how I know.

I try to do that as much as possible. I damaged my engine cover first week I owned the car and had to replace it. Piece of rebar was sticking up 2”, that was what was holding the curb down, and that was what caused the damage. Curb height was fine otherwise. That cost over $300.

I’m just looking for something to help out in situations where backing in may not be possible. I’m getting extremely good at backing with the camera system now.
Thanks

When I had my 17 4runner I was looking into this and saw someone put together a system that used an oem rear camera mounted in the front. He put a switch in to be able to alternate between the two. I can’t help you Bruce but something like that would be perfect in my opinion. Small camera that you can mount where it’s hidden. And being oem is a plus.

That’s something I didn’t think of. Only thing is the way the switch would have to be wired. It would have to bypass the existing reverse switch that activates the rear camera. Would need wiring diagrams to do this.
With the existing price of this car, I don’t think it would be unreasonable for something like this to be factory installed. I see vehicles with 360 degree camera systems every now and then.
Thanks

I have a 360 camera in my other car and I use it every time I drive. It would have been great to have in the Mach but I would settle for the front viewing camera.
the guy I followed with the 4runner had a neat setup where it didn’t have to be in reverse to work. He could drive down the freeway and flip the switch and show ahead/behind!

I've fitted a camera from ASLAutoMedia (in Australia), camera sits behind front number plate and displays on Sync screen with single press and hold for three seconds of the back button. You can fit up to two additional cameras to the system after the factory rear one. It is well integrated into the car and includes harness and camera.

It does require the centre console bits and pieces to come out to access the screen rear and plug in the necessary wiring.

Works a treat, more about checking clearance to car park bollards (that front HP spoiler does NOT go over!)

agreed. Ford has 360° cameras on the trucks. would make sense to have that option here and on the cobras at least. but especially a front facing camera, both for parking and for track recording

For what it's worth I have the Raxiom in my GT. Worked fine for a few years and then the backup camera died. I installed a new camera but it turns out it's the unit itself not the camera that went bad. The map updates were too expensive to make it worth updating. So now I have a $700 touch screen (with a cracked bezel), nearly 10 year old maps and no functioning camera. Would not buy again. But you were able to turn on the back camera while driving, so that was cool.

Do you know how exactly does it work? Is it multiplexing the camera input on the main unit to several cameras, or is the multi-camera support actually already built into the Ford system and you just add (and wire) the additional camera(s)?

I didn't ask those questions, more concerned with the integration into the car and ease of use.
MUSTANG FM SYNC 2 - 3 FRONT CAMERA INTERFACE (aslautomedia.com.au) is the webpage describing the unit and some pictures. I had the kit installed rather than doing it myself.
