Hey all, first post on here. I’ll state my long story short first then long story long next.
Long story short after a small alternator fire I’ve tried almost everything yet my 2020 GT Premium PP1 is still showing the infamous “charging system service now” error on my dash. Car reads 15v pretty consistently and throws codes P0626 and P065B. I’ve checked all fuses and replaced the mega fuse for the alternator and power steering, spliced in a new connector for the alternator and replaced the ring terminal at the end of the power cable.
Long story long, about a year ago a buddy of mine installed bbk 1 7/8 primary long tubes on the car at a shop and rather than purchasing o2 extensions we decided to splice wire to extend the o2 sensors on our own. This was fixed after this whole incident happened along with purchasing new sensors. almost a month after the headers and ghetto o2 extensions were done, my cars voltage would occasionally drop, car would idle weird and die out at stop lights and my heated seats weren’t working. This led me to replacing the alternator because the voltage regulator tested bad at my local oriellys. I replaced the alternator with a reman from rockauto which was probably a bad choice but i had to do what i could afford at the time. My problems persisted and while inspecting the o2 sensors i twisted my driver side sensor and it fixed all my problems so I decided not to touch it from there and continued to drive the car as is. Fast forward to two weeks ago - I do a pull on my way home from the store and shortly after the message “charing system service now” appears and all systems went black and i lost power steering but my motor was still running, I coasted to my house and when i popped the hood my alternator was on fire, after an unsuccessful attempt to spray it with a fire extinguisher, i called the fire dept for them to take care of it. Since then I’ve replaced both upstream o2 sensors, added extensions, repaired the alternator connector and repaired the ring terminal that goes to the alternator itself and of course got a new alternator.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and if you’ve read all of this thank you for your time!
