2018 hood vents poor design

Ummm.... how do they fit so well on the OEM hood!? Are they off the shelf products or custom made? Thanks.

It wasn't bad at all. My first time.
However i bought an extra hood. On ebay cause i trust myself but not too much lol.

What's under your hood?

As you see i mainly roadcourse the car.
I mainly go stock with cat back with official dyno at 429whp on 91oct.
I do use a tune sometime (depending on the organization I'm running) with 96oct timing pulling 452hp.
I'll take a bigger air intake maybe but i believe the power is enough
Mustang needs 2 things.
Fixing overheating
Improve suspensions.
I'm focusing on those things now.

Ya I slapped a blower on mine. On hot days in Florida, I can barely open the damn hood!

My test of the vents

So I can make my vents functional with a little elbow grease?

If I understand what I'm seeing here, it looks like the OEM vents can be functional if you remove ALL the plastic backing from them (Configuration 3).
Leave the plastic underneath them and they don't do .

Yeah, I mean there is a wind tunnel video posted on this site not long ago. It literally shows the "smoke" from the guys wand going into the grill and out through the hood vents.

But they don't work

Very small. The hole is really really small. As said,those are more when u seat at the light to release some heat..if you wamt "functional then you need real vents for downforce and heat dissipatione

Yeah, that's what it looks like. Hot air rising by natural convection can eventually stumble around and find the vents. The vents appear to placed to make sure any water coming through falls on unimportant plastic parts, which places them away from any natural air flow. That said, I don't know why they need those plastic "drip trays" (or whatever they are) underneath them.
Maybe management said "Thou shalt minimize and control all dripping" and an engineer thought "OK, but we're gonna make this tray easy to remove".

I guess I'm not that worried about overheating my engine, but I'd like the hot air to find the vents more easily and flow out more freely.

Removing the plastic and the hoodcover will help a little. Little is definetely better than zero

So I took the hood vents off the wrap them in black and found that the actual intake vent is tiny compared to the rest of the piece. I’m a little bummed that they couldn’t have made it at least slightly more fictional lol. I highly doubt very much air if any really does flow through there. I’m thinking if DIYing it and cutting some of the plastic out to make it actually more functional so to speak.

so your a ford engineer? Good god guy what do you know about any of this?
