how many miles on it?

what temp was it outside?

i never noticed the ‘BBQ / Typewriter tick’ until after a recent oil change at 15k miles.
that trait is intermittent and not a constant tick.

fuel injectors are quite loud on these cars

BBQ tick sorta sounds like intermittent metal expanding and contracting, kinda like a manifold getting real hot and cooling down… sort of a ping
ex - tick…. tick tick……..tick.. tick tick tick………tick..tick

best I could do for an example. haha

at your next oil change, add an 11oz bottle of Liqui Moly… either MoS2 or the more expensive Ceratec.

they will help but I recommend using the MoS2 at every oil change as I’ve had great experience in both of our vehicles.
I just flipped to 11,250 and ambient temps were 95F

ok
how recent was your last oil change?

were you running the car hard or for a long period?

i noticed my ticking when i pulled up to a Walgreens drive-thru on a ~ 97F degree day after driving home from work for a good 30min from 70-85mph most of the way.

really kinda sounds like metal pinging when it heats up and expands and contracts

oil pans are plastic too which gives off more sound (less sound absorption than metal ones)

definitely at next oil change, confirm they use 5w/30 full synthetic and 10qts.

after the oil change there is still enough room in the pan to add a bottle of the MoS2 or Ceratec.

Ceratec reviews for Mustang are all over the web, it works.

I already put a bottle in my Mustang but at last oil change went back to MoS2 after I heard the ping and after about 50miles or so I haven’t heard it since so will probably just use that cuz its cheaper and doesnt discolor the oil as bad as Ceratec.

Cant go wrong either way with anything from Liqui Moly.

bottom line…
if its the well documented BBQ tick you are hearing then don’t worry as its been going on for years in the 5.0

Just use the Liqui Moly for peace of mind and to calm any OCD, thats why I use it 😉

I've read about Ceratec and liquid moly, I just figured what if it's a fill level thing and not an additive thing. So instead of adding additives I tried adding more oil, tick went away and hasn't come back yet. I'm definitely keeping an ear on it though. My last oil change was on 7/3/24 at 8,000 so I burned a half quart over 3,250 miles. I do run the car hard but not track hard, also I always use the paddles and often engine brake so I'm assuming my rings are allowing some oil to pull through under vacuum. I listen to my car with stethoscope ears and first noticed the tick when remote starting a few days ago, it was as you and others describe. Similar to a grill ignitor tick tick tick sound.

Edit; I do my own oil changes and I do use 5w30 full synthetic

ok, definitely sounds like you know what to keep an ear out for.

and also sounds like its a non issue

I have read some folks saying they think that Ford put in an additive at the factory as a lot of folks dont get the tick until after their first oil change?!
(now wouldnt that be something)

but I still highly suggest the Liqui Moly

i have no affiliation with them, just have used in many cars over the years 👍🏻

Honestly I'm the same with the paddle shifters, I basically alternated between 1,2,3 gear with the paddle shifters through town and only had it in drive if I was on the highway.

Stay on the oil level checks and tear open your oil filters after changes, here was what mine looked like after I tore it open:

It was non magnetic indicating it was bearing material since they’re copper, it was all throughout the oil filter and in between the folds, they ranged from small flakes and specs to very thin shavings.

I feel like my biggest fail was not checking the oil regularly enough and depending on a low oil level sensor to prompt me before it becoming an issue.

The sound my engine made wasn’t noticeable to the dealer I sold the car to, or some of my car friends, but I knew it was there, the only ones who agreed was the performance shop who thought it was timing until I showed them the pictures of my oil change, clearly bottom end.

love these cars so hoping this one is a keeper.
