I know it's awhile before winter, but I'm starting to research best trade-off winter wheel/tire package so I can drive my car year round. I'm not planning to race or pull maximum g's in below freezing temperatures, and just looking for something not too wide for occasional snow/slush, wears well, and handles OK, preferably a square setup that lets me rotate front to back to even out the wear through their life.

I'm assuming 19" wheel diameter is a must to clear the PP Brembos.

OEM staggered setup has 40 series tires on both front and back, despite 20mm wider rears (275 vs. 255), which implies if I go for same total diameter as the fronts in square setup, my actual speed will be 98.6% of the speedometer reading. If I go for actual diameter of rears, I might have slight risk of rubbing in the front if roughly 8mm increase in overall diameter of fronts compared to OEM makes a big difference.

I'm thinking 8.5 inch width, 19" wheel, 245/45 all around would give near same speedometer accuracy (only .5mm difference in diameter compared to OEM GT PP1 rears). The big question is what offset prevents rubbing in the front without looking like the same wheel/tire on the rear is inset too far. It seems wheel hub to fender is about the same at all four corners...So if I'm thinking straight, a 35 - 40mm offset would do the trick, maybe closer to 40, assuming the wheel mounting hub relation to outside edge of wheel on the aftermarket wheels I'd buy is close to OEM.

I'd appreciate an affirmation of my logic/calculations, especially from someone who may have done a square winter set up on PP1 car.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Hey there, were you able to figure this one out? I’m hoping to accomplish the same exact thing lol

I bought a set of RTX Envy wheels in a 19x8.5 38 offset and michelin x-ice snow tires, 245/45/19, now, i havent put them on yet, but everything says they should fit over the brakes fine and they give a little more clearance on the inside and poke out only 1mm more, so basically nothing.

Let us know how it fits. I'm looking at a similar setup for my next set of winter tires.

24545R19 square is no issue.

Source: that’s the size of my snow tires.

Not to high jack, but what's the deal with the poke out ? Says muscle, traction and power to my eyes.

BTW staggered tires can be rotated, they are just swapped L to R across .

Well we are talking about snow tires for a daily driver, generally if you need them you're more interested in practicality than looks. Narrower tires are a little better in snow and anything that pokes out more is going to increase the chance of spraying stones on to your paint, which is more likely with the 'sand' (gravel) used in some places.

Hi, well, tried to put them on today, and they rub, very slightly rub the inside of the wheel on the caliper with cold brakes. So yea..guess I'm trying to return them.

I'd like to run this, but my car sits on Roush adjustable coil overs and is lowered. I bought it that way and I just don't know "how much" off of stock it is. I'd take the added sidewall for better comfort in winter conditions but I'm afraid of rubbing. Currently running 20x9.5 and Conti Summer 275/35R20s. Want square winter setup for Southern IN. So not deep snow, but same nasty roads. I do live with some twisties and elevation so even keeping it calm, I am concerned a bit having to navigate downhill hairpin turns in winter.

I'm looking at the Vredestein Wintrac Pros for snow/slush/ice/performance on the cold dry without breaking the bank. I was resigned to going with a 19"x8.5 PP1 OEM wheel and 245/40R19s. But if you think I can go with the 245/45R19 if I'm perhaps an inch lowered, I'd take the extra sidewall in that setup. The Wintrac Pros don't come in 255/40R19s or that is probably what I'd go with. I guess narrower is ok and better cutting through slush/snow.
