After my last track day, I noticed an issue with one of my front passenger side wheel studs:
I’m really not sure how this happened as I alway use a torque wrench to tighten my lugs. But… seeing as how I’ve completed 22 track days and I always swap my street rotors/pads for my track specific setup, and then swap them back afterwards, that’s at the very least 44 torque cycles on those studs. Of course I’ve had the wheels off and back on more than that as I’ve worked on the car.
Anyways, lucky for me my wife got me this set of GT4 style extended wheel studs and open ended lugs from OPMustang for my birthday in May
I was able to press out the studs while still on the car using my ball joint press. It was tricky but I was able to use two of the round cups on either side of the stud on the back of the hub to seat the press. To press the new studs on, I used some washers with grease it between them and a 1.50 pitch M14 hex nut to pull the stud through the hub.
Next I’ll have to order some 25mm spacers so I can mix and match my rear Apex 19x11 wheels in a true square setup so I can rotate my tires at the track!
Quick update on the clutch issue I experienced on the previous track day. After pumping the clutch many times while driving, my clutch issues seemed to have gone away. This will turn out to be a temporary “fix” and I’ll ultimately have to replace the throw out bearing, but more on that later
