Maybe it is just a prototype, since they don't show the engine bay officially atm

Maybe it's another "Star Wars" inspired item since Ford Design Team can't come up with anything original - George Lucas will be looking for a payout....

In one year we will have ten threads daily "Painted my engine cover today". Some of them are going to be color matched to the car. Then some will be weird colors that don't really work. "Why does everyone hate the new cover so much it has grown on me".

Kind of a fan of the new cover...at least it's functional now.
Nice... but there's one possible glitch:
With direct injection, cylinder head temps could run cooler!
You'd need one of those food safety warnings about undercooked eggs and meat.

Ugly as sin compared to my '17 GTPP. That cover is ridiculous looking.

Time to get over it people.

Its because of the new engine design. The DI engine without it on top may not even look nice. Yet it functions sweet. Placement of the engine components. The suitcase cover is there for a reason. Mustang just caught up with the times. Win loose or draw on the cover. Its 460 hp under there . That's whats important. Just my 2 cents.:bolt::headbang:

Interesting look at the gauges, thanks for sharing. I wonder if the 4k "limiter" is because the engine is cold or because the car is still on it's break-in period?

Engine cover still doesn't look good, but if it gets rid of the DI tick it'll be worth it. Those of us that leave our motors stock probably don't pop the hood at car shows anyway so "out of sight, out of mind".
The "limiter" may be the maximum line lock setting.

Somebody posted this picture of the current and new engine covers. It looks like there is space in the 18 to access a dipstick in the current location but the angle isn't correct to see it if there is one.

Here is the new cover by itself

Here is a picture of a 1969 351 Windsor like the one in my first Mustang (purchased new).

I bet the sides of the engine cover pop off or up so you can access beneath them. On the top you can see where this is possible
