I don't see ford using new engines for the GT500. It would ruin reliability, durability. The 5.2 has been around a brief period. Far to short to stuff in the GT500. I think it will be the old 5.8 Trinity with a big 2.9L blower. It will be a little while longer before more info is available. This I can say for sure: Ford is waiting for Dodge to finalize the SRT Demon's hp level. Once that is known, the SVT GT500 will top it in power, but not by much. Possibly 25-30 hp. The GT350R's body is what is being used, with the front end and Engibe a secret, hence why the rest of the car is not camo'd. That big hood bulge tells me a big blower is sitting on top. Though it is likely not belted yet. Oddly, the Oem Eaton on the 2013-14 GT500 was fairly quiet in operation. You almost could not hear it. There is a chance it'll be a beefed up 5.0 with the big blower on it. As the new 5.0 is capable of over 900 crank hp, supposedly.
Well,i hope that it is a 351 as do most people. In order for FORD to beat the demon in my opinion, they will need 2 models.
lets just use the name GT500.They will need a GT500 drag pack with the same type of tires that the demon is gonna use with more power to beat it,and lets say a GT500 R ,that will be the zl1 destroyer and go after the z06.What do you think?:ford::cheers:

I'm gonna have to call BS... I was giving you a little ear till you said the 5.2L was too young for the 500. I would remind you that the 500 received a fairly new to the scene FI 5.4L in 2007, as it had been on the market about the same length of time the 5.2L has thus far.

The 5.2L in CPC configuration, which if I'm not mistaken is what was in the Daytona Mustang GT4, performed flawlessly. It will work just fine blown or turbocharged as well. (Edited to add that it will work just fine with an OPG upgrade)

If there is a 500, it will have something new and game-changing.

I've been putting all my hopes into a CPC 5.2 basket, but the thought of the "gen 3" Coyote for the GT has me intrigued. There are comments that the latest Coyote is all new apart from the crank......although until this is confirmed when Ford release the official specs, it's just "internet talk". But it could, potentially, be a pretty big upgrade over the current 5.0

I wonder if a potential 5.2 CPC V8 (as per the GT4/Aluminator XS) would receive similar upgrades (I'm thinking in terms of port & direct injection)?

What would form a better basis for a forced induction halo-Stang? The new 5.0 or an "as is" 5.2?

:)

Question...

Couldn't the 5.2L in current configuration, just detuned to 5.0L displacement, still be a new 5.0L with everything different except the crankshaft?:ninja:

Use the 5.2's bore but destroke it back down to 5 liters.
This would give a much better rod/stroke ratio......
I still want a 5.8 based Voodoo with TT!

The GT500's engines output depended on the Coyote's adaptation of Port Direct Injection, we were pretty clear about this. In order to put a V8's output out of reach of Dodge and GM was to add in PDI. There will be no mention of the GT500's engine until the new Gen 3 Coyote hype settles.

Also, the 2018 GT's refresh is basically the dumbed down version of the GT500. The GT350 will follow the refresh after the GT500 is released. The GT350 and GT500 share a lot of the front fascia work this refresh. With the exception of the GT500's hood, a 2018 GT350 and 2018 GT500 would look very similar. The front of the Mustang has been opened up to let more air in. A refreshed GT350 would also put additional pressure on the active race teams to mirror those improvements... there is still time to squeeze out a limited run of 2017.5's but it's getting down to the wire.

2019 should bring an improved GT350 both engine and refresh and a birthday Special Model to keep sales up.

Keep your eyes open.

I don't see why they just don't play the big cube game. 6.0 or 7.0 engine. Mirror the 5.0 technology in a larger platform.

With the amount of money Ford has spent on the "Ecoboost" brand/trademarked name, I don't see them going with anything but a twin turbo D.I. CPC 5.2 or 5.0. The new GT sportscar is turbo'd, so even more reason why I think it's turbo. Figure on 755 hp-as evidenced by a photo pointed out by a Ford vip with the 2018 Mustang debut at the Detroit auto show. Ford might be sandbagging and waiting for the Hellcat Demon's final numbers before revealing hp numbers.

.
So, we'll see GT350 sold alongside "GT500"? I have no problem with that! AND we'll get a special birthday model as well those two? It is the Mach 1's birthday in the '19MY

My guess is the "19 MY GT350 will remain the same if is happens at all and the next car will not be a GT500

Interesting Ted.....and that's why I put GT500 in inverted commas. I've read elsewhere that the next halo-Stang will NOT be called GT500. They didn't say it wouldn't be a Shelby......just not a GT500.

I'll admit, I'd find it odd if there is a facelifted '19MY GT350 (with or without mechanical updates). I'd have thought, if they were going to do this, it would have been for the '18MY along with the Ecoboost and GT......but we know that isn't happening. Would this be the first time a Mustang model has been a year late in getting a facelift?
