Why anybody would want a convertible Mustang is beyond me - especially a convertible GT350
I suggest that maybe you ask the ~10,000 new generation Shelby GT500 owners why they wanted a Shelby convertible?

Obviously a lot of people like them based on the sales figures for the GT500.

I know I had a great time with mine and I guess each to his own.

Nice picture of a rare '66 GT350 convertible and if I recall this was a manual transmission car or maybe it was his blue '66 GT350 convertible that was a 4 speed?

It's a lot of fun to cruise with the top down. Similar to riding a motorcycle, but without the imminent danger of death or dismemberment. :)

It wold be cool if they offered a vert with a factory roll bar. Then I'd rock one in a heart beat!

The best way to hear a truly great V8 is with the top down. True story.

I agree.

Some of the best looking roll bars for a convertible that were factory produced came out in the GT350/GT500 Shelby's from 1968 thru 1970.

If Ford came out with something similar to that configuration there is no question that these GT350 convertibles we be an even hotter ticket item than they are now.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The GT350 is a pure bred track car for the street, the emphasis was on handling rather than OMGWTFBBQ power like the last GT500.

To put that much focus on tuning the chassis to near perfection then throw it all away by cutting the roof off and losing that hard earned weight loss by adding bracing that won't even get you close to the original seems like a step backwards.

Also, those Shelby 'verts were built by Shelby, who did nothing but bless off on this one. I'd think they wouldn't do it, but who knows.

It's all about the targa top. Not a fan of convertibles.

I don't disagree with you on the new GT350 being a pure bred track car for the street but there was no more hardcore pure bred track car for the street than the '65 GT350 and it did not take long for Ford to build a GT350/GT500 convertible model a few years later.

Ford may not go this way with this new Shelby but I would not be surprised to see a convertible model in the next year or so.

As far as Shelby convertibles being built by Shelby, if you are referring to the '68 to '70 cars these convertibles were not built by Shelby American as production was moved to Ionia, Michigan from LA, California and was under complete Ford control with A.O Smith Company in Ionia providing the assembly.

With respect to the recent 8 year run of Shelby GT500's these coupes/convertibles also were produced by Ford at their Flat Rock, Michigan assembly plant with Shelby American again having nothing to do with the assembly of these cars new generation GT500's.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I really miss my 03 GT vert.
