Major testing at Nurburgring the last few days, still keeping an eye out for anything Jaguar or Ford.

I'm not sure how long this Industry Pool will last but both Ford and Jag are absent so far.

Voodooo, I appreciate how you are removing weight from your GT350. Are you going to use a lighter battery ? Are lightweight high torque starters available for the Voodoo engine ?

The starters are the same as the 5.0. The batteries are lightweight as far as lead acid goes but dry cell or AGM would probably have a lighter version. The oem battery number is BXT-99TR4 which is 390 cold cranking amps.

I still think the GT 500 will not be released until the S650 "redesign".

The Mustang needs to loose weight...period.

Base price for the 2017 GTR is $110,000. It weighs 3933 lbs.
I'm betting on an S550 platform GT500, but to the second point I quoted, with a bit of weight reduction in a second generation of the S550.

2018 will be the S550/V2, weight reduction, new auto 8/10 speed tranny, GT power bump, introduction of a new track pack and/or a Mach I (with several GT350 components), GT350 leaves the lineup, GT500 is introduced ... 5.2L CPC Twin Turbo, ~730HP.

Yeah, the GT-R bends time and space, it's pretty astounding how capable it is with that kind of weight burden. Fun cars, super exclusive, not as "disconnected" as some people carp about, but in 2016, it's now overpriced.

I agree with most everything you had to say here, but do believe that weight loss for 2018 through the S650 intro will be negligible...swapping aluminum for steel where possible, more aluminum in the body, lighter wheels, etc. In the end, not amounting to more than 100 lbs. The real weight loss will come with the S650 to get into the same range with Camaro, or less. I see a Mach1 coming in 2018 with either a more potent 5.0, or punched out to 5.2 making around 460-465 HP and suspension upgrades (including magnetic shocks) to compete with the Camaro SS. And I believe that you will see the V-8 go away in Mustangs when the S650 comes along, with the possible exception of a S650 GT500. For the S650, could mean the 3rd generation 3.5L TT (or even 2.7L) V-6 becomes the standard for GT's making 450-500 HP. As for the GT 500, I believe that it will show up as a 2018 with a small number of 17's as 50th anniversary cars. But I see your 730 HP rating and raise you 10!

Oh yeah, that's around the range I was thinking, ~100lbs, it makes the car better, Ford gets to use it in their marketing material ("new space age materials" :D). I've done my share of lightening up a car, and it's costly and/or results in diminished street manners - you really have to engineer it into the platform (like you indicated, the S650)

Another 10, holy smokes, I like how you think

After a quick break in testing, Nurburgring Testing has started up again.

Keep your eyes peeled, zero from Ford or Jag yet. Something is absolutely going on in the garage. There is no way both Ford and Jag are absent for this pool!! Could be SVR stuff, hoping it's a new Mustang.

I kind of like the sound of the EcoBoost engine. I hope it's the actual engine sound, not heavily digitally edited.

But there might be one for the '19MY ;)

Personally, I'd expect Ford to roll out the facelifted V6/Ecoboost/GT for the '18MY, with possibly the Mach 1 following later that model year, then roll out the GT500 for the '19MY :ford:

We're just gonna have to wait and see :)

The GT350 debut was in Nov 2014, short run 2015 MY, full run 2016 MY. There's still hope.

If Ford doesn't have a GT500 at Nurburgring this summer (June-Sept 2016), it is impossible to release a late 2017 model.

July, August and September will be busy so, still some hope for a 2017.5 like the GT350.

However, there is still lots of time for a 2018... and a refresh could be priority right now. I would still like to see a limited edition 2017 GT500 and a KR (R Package for the 500) in 2018.

Buuuuuuuuut... maybe Ford is skipping Nurburgring to retain the shock factory in November. Ring testing could go on in April 2017 and a limited run could be pushed out (137 GT350 MY15).

Right now, every move Ford has made with the Mustang has been profitable and highly praised. I'm not sure Ford wants to compete with a patchwork zl1 camaro in a variable ridden event...

I would expect the announcement of a 2018 car to come somewhere in the first quarter of calendar 2017 so I think it's premature to say it's not happening for '18.
