I'm a GT350 buyer if it was offered with a 6R80 or better yet, a dual clutch transmission. I'm done with manuals. They're fun but in the end the auto is faster.

In 3 decades I will be 80 years old and I will most likely not care (that sucks to write that..lol, 50 now..and I feel like a spring chicken..30 years is not that far away..oh my god, now I'm depressed !) just kidding, I think Jesus will have his second coming before we see it illegal to drive your own car on the street. :amen::hail::cheers:
It's pretty common for somewhat older people who are not in the technology industry to find it difficult to wrap their minds around this, but I guarantee you it's coming, and faster than you think... Whether or not it's before Jesus' second coming... well I have no idea when he's planning to return, so I can't say.

"Sooner than you think" LOL - funny stuff. What does that mean? 10 years? 30?

Me too. I'd be all over a dual clutch GT350.

I agree. I've driven a fair number of manuals including my current 2011 GT, but a quick shifting auto with responsive paddles would absolutely we welcome. Having had the pleasure to drive a few such vehichles in the last year or two 911 turbo, Audi R8 V10, Nissan GTR, Ferrari 430 ( I love exotics racing in Las Vegas)..... count me in as a FAN.

I already said what it means. Probably within the lifetimes of a good few posters on this board, but I don't think human-driven cars will begin to be eliminated from public roads before about ~40+ years from now.

I must have missed that, what I saw was you telling us old guys that we couldn't comprehend what was going on. :)

 I wasn't calling yall stupid or anything. I mean statistically, it's just a pretty common problem with older people being reluctant to believe in or accept new trends. I love my dad, but I get into arguments with him about all the things he doesn't understand about today's generation or today's technology all the time. I'm sure I'll be the same way within a few decades myself.

And for the record, it makes the car enthusiast part of me sad thinking about the death of sports cars as we know them, but it's going to happen. It's inevitable.

I don't agree. In the 80's we barely had a proper muscle car.
Huge gas shortage scare and all the manufactures made real shitty cheap cars. Then they came back and has grown with a vengeance. As long as there are people who want and will pay for these toys. Someone will build them. I think in 10 years they will have self driving cars. But Look at the car line up across the manufacturers. They all make more than a few impressive
cars.

It's like in the 50s people thought there would be flying cars soon. Well the technology is possible, but we don't drive flying cars.

I think requiring people to buy cars that drive themselves will happen, but I hope it will be a long time in the future.. like well after I'm gone.

Now I wouldn't mind if all the texters and people who leave huge gaps in front of them for other reasons would let the car drive them. Traffic would be a lot better.

What is difficult to grasp for many people, regardless of age, is the rate and acceleration of tech into our lives. In this case Moore's law meets the road. I welcome the sensors and the safety aspects, (although I still think you need to learn how to parallel park) but I don't need anyone to drive me around at this point in my life, maybe in a few years it'll come in handy.

Back to the OP -

I'll never understand why people get so adamant about their favored transmission, brand or method of getting air into the engine. It's all good and there's room for all of it. DCTs are awesome and will always shift faster than a human, but I'll still buy the three pedal version every time if available. Does that mean I wouldn't buy a 991 GT3, 918, P1 or a laFerrari? nope, I'll be the first guy in line given I have the means to own and run it.

Swapping to an automatic conversion might not be difficult. it's been revealed already that the 5.2 liter could be offered as a crate engine that would simply bolt right up to the existing coyote drive-train. SO....with that said it's very possible to swap out the transmission. Although the work involved to get the paddle shifters in place might be a bit of a PITA. But a basic auto shift lever on the center console is certainly achievable. I've done conversions like this in the past on the foxbody mustangs swapping the manual out for an AOD. If the bell housing lines up... then you just worry about the tranny mount and the driveshaft length. Might need a cut and balance. Other than that.... its certainly doable.

Me....I'll just keep the stick and row my own. But if a dual clutch option as good as the Porshe PDK's comes around for a GT350.....I'm all over it.

I think that FORD should at least give the consumer the choice. A stick is fun unless your in 1 hour of traffic every morning, and while this car will be a week end toy, it will not be a problem for me. However as I was saying give us a choice, perhaps for the racing guys that would use it a auto, for that little bite of extra speed....

This isn't about an economic necessity (at least yet), this is just about an ever increasing interest in automation. There's still lots of people who love cars, and that will keep those sports cars around for quite a bit still, but there are far more people who would *love* the idea of their car doing all the work for them. Not to mention that the benefits in terms of energy savings and safety are going to be WAY too huge for the world to ignore going forward. It's just not the same situation at all.

Unlike flying cars, this isn't about some dreamt-up fantasy used to wow people at car shows. Autonomous cars are very much a reality, and billions upon billions of dollars are pouring into their R&D as we speak. Flying cars were never really viable from a cost-benefit standpoint, even if they were technically possible. Fully autonomous cars almost already are. Not to mention that piloting a flying car requires *more* responsibility and liability issues on the part of the driver/pilot, as opposed to less. In other words, they cause the exact problem that AI-driven cars solve.

... Once we have mini cold fusion reactors and the tech to completely autonomous landing and takeoff capability for passenger planes, though, maybe flying cars won't too far off. Probably not in any of our lifetimes, though. ;)

But yeah, it's really hard to predict exactly when what I'm saying will happen, and maybe it's further in the future than I'm guessing, but I don't think it's *all* that far off. And I definitely think it will happen eventually.

I think it will happen, likely sooner than later.
But I doubt in our life time it will be mandatory.
As long as there is in interest in performance sport
cars, they will be produced. Look at the R&D all the major
manufacturers put into these cars. Look at the after market world.
Really its crazy money and world wide. So in our life time we are safe.
I agree let the idiot who wants to to text instead of drive by a self driving
yaris. The dual exhaust of my Shelby gt350 will wake him up as I go by:)
