I understand historically the answer is no, however we have come a long long ways in automatic transmission technology (DSG, 6 spds, etc) and on a lot of sports cars it is becoming standard, even on the high end models. A decade ago no one (aftermarket or otherwise) could build a automatic transmission for my diesel truck that would handle over 900lbs of torque, now I can get a 6spd auto built to handle in excess of 2,000lbs of torque with smooth shifting. That's also why I find it hard to believe domestic car auto manufacturers haven't ventured to awd or select 4wd on cars. It is wishful thinking but an SVT with a DSG auto, and full control over the 4wd would be the most dynamic car in the world, it would leave an almost infinite number of driver experience configurations.
Essentially all Mercedes models, including those with 475 HP and up supercharged engines, come ONLY with automatic. Porsche Carrera Turbo is made only with the amazing PDK automatic.

There are people on this forum who've stated they won't buy the GT350 because they can't drive or won't drive a manual. I'd rather keep it that way because then I know people who buy a GT350 are doing so because they recognize the driver's car appeal. I'm happy there are other companies offering autos in their sports cars but this isn't about making the Mustang as fast as possible, rather it's Ford recognizing it's true enthusiast base.

I'm sure Ford will eventually build a Hi-Po Mustang with an auto, perhaps the Mach 1.

Don't you think that "true enthusiast" isn't married to a particular piece of hardware? he can appreciate each for it's merits?

Some people think their own flavor of enthusiasm is the only right way and everyone else is wrong.

People with disabilities ? And you think they're going to buy track targeted car if they're disabled (with the whole respect to disabled people) ?

It more seems to me like a bunch of people would buy GT350 just to have it (because it's cool, expensive and there won't be very many of them) and they either can't or are too lazy to drive stick.
This is such a lame ridiculous statement. Someone who prefers an automatic transmission either can't shift a manual or is too lazy. I drive both and I like both. I like to manual just fine, but the automatic performs better.

I'm switching to auto for the new car, and would have bought a Shelby if I didn't want to make the switch. Them offering an auto upscale car would be about the only thing that might make me regret getting the LE auto. Might.... My dealer would x plan am svt for me, but it would still be more than the LE at sticker probably (and I don't mean a stripped bossish car, I would want a loaded shelbyish car)
Funny, I just asked this question on the other thread. How do you like the auto in the LE? Is the auto responsive? Do you feel loss of power in any way? Does it spin the tires in 1st, 2nd and 3rd like the stick does?

Stick is a love hate relationship and want the GTPP auto if they have it in 2016.

No hate for autos in any other car. This car, the GT350, should not shift gears on its own.
Why not? Except for the 1965MY when the GT350 was close to a race car when in street trim, the GT350 aka 1966-1970 MYs all had autos available. The poser boys and 3in Harrys won that war with Ford wayyy back.

Background: 1965 GT350 built to allow Ford to race the Mustang as part of the Total Performance Program. GT350 Street car fairly close to a race machine, GT350R, closer then any major manufacturer has built since then.

Problem...the 3 in Harrys came out in force for that car. What is a 3 in Harry...well, you know...hits full staff at 3 in and his wife has joked about his stature for years...thus he proves his 'manhood' but having the best car, best stereo...etc Doesn't know how to work them..just has to have them. Purely psychological.

So..GT350 shows up (country already gong nuts over the new Mustang). These boys walk into a dealership..see the white blue striped monster and start slobbering all over the place...gotta have it, gotta have it...salesman tries to steer them to a proper car (for their needs). But no go--these guys just won't listen.

What happens next--a LOT of letters to Ford complaining...ride is too stiff, it is too noisy, it makes funny sounds when it turns, no rear seat, my wife's mink coat (big back then) just got ruined by battery fluid.... Again, guys buying a car for the "looks" and "status" who had NO need for the real intended use of the car. SAAC weekend racing.

So for 1966, the stiff lowered front suspension (gone), loud side exhaust (gone), rear package tray (gone and rear seat added back in, horrible noise on turning (gone-Detroit locker rear end. became an option), battery taken out of truck (where it added weight to the left side rear wheel for better traction) auto tranny available...all real performance items that the posers and 3 in Harrys didn't need nor wanted while looking cool on Saturday night out for a drive at 30 mph.

By 1967 the changes went even further with the newly designed GT350 and GT500...more cruiser then true performance machine.

every time Ford or any major manufacturer (just look at changes in the Z06 program from the C5-C6-C7...each step of the way race content out and comfort content in) tries to build a specific limited purpose car the wannabees who want the look but not the discomforts pile on board and basically ruin it with complaints.

Heck...look at the 2001 Bullitt and 03 Mach 1 suspensions....NOT as much drop (lowering) on the Mach 1 as the Bullitt had. Ask Scott Hoag of MRT (former chief engineer of those programs)...too many cry babies complained about the 01 Bullitt being too 'stiff".... 2012 Boss 302, same idea...build a BASIC car in touch with the original where it is just driver and motor. Many buyers understood the concept but many didn't and complained big time to Ford in the surveys...crappy base stereo, no power seats, no nav, no sync (in 12-added in for 13) blah blah blah...

Sorry guys but the posers and 3 in Harrys (they have the money) will ruin a true build every time. Ford starts off true but the money will talk in the long run.

There's plenty of cats for people that prefer automatics, why this one ? Why every single one has to have auto transmission ?

I don't really care whether Ford makes a GT350 with an automatic... and maybe they will in a year or two.

I won't buy it, but it sounds like there are some here that would. Live and let live is my motto.

I would love to see a 5.2L flat plane or derivative built with an auto, just don't call it a GT350.
Something say like a high revving "Voodoo-Jet" to rip up the strip and to show-up the LSX Lingenfelter.

Sadly as much as everyone wants to argue.

A machine will always shift faster than a human.

Autos are the future for performance. In 10-15 years, you probably won't find a new manual car. I don't want to see that day come, but it will...

All these high end cars are going to auto's for two main reasons. They perform well, and warranties.

I know this is the case with Mercedes, their AMG cars has a greater sense of self preservation then most people.

Excuse, huh? Interesting wording there. Your opinion is a reason and someone else's is an excuse. You'll never see the wide angle.

How much would it cost to simply purchase an Auto trans and pay for the work to equip?

Yeah I expect you're right. There also may come a day when you can't drive yourself or buy a car with over 100 hp or even get gasoline. Hopefully all those things are at least 40 years in the future.
