I think the early cars had wood stickers and wood plastic, but never real wood. I won't say it's impossible, but I would put money on that it will not be an option on the S550 generation. They've been pretty vocal that this generation's interior is "designed and not styled" and in keeping with their stated inspiration of aircraft interiors I would put a wood accent package at statistical zero.
I would expect carbon fiber before wood.

I think it's unlikely too, but it would be nice to have some more interior customization options and was just seeing if there was interest from anyone else. I'd love to get the machine-turned performance pack dash without actually having to buy the performance pack (or paying $1,500 or whatever ridiculous price they want for the dash part and the 6 hours of installation).

Other manufacturers (BMW, Mercedes) often provide like 5 choices for the dash, and it would be nice if Ford provided more options (different types of aluminum, carbon fiber, different wood species, etc.) as a stand-alone option.

Real wood? What happens when the passenger air bag deploys?

I hate the stick on plastic as well. My wife's Toyota Solara had it and it would lift at the corners in the Texas heat. Hated how cheap it looked.

Doesn't the air bag deploy from under or above the aluminum strip now? I don't see how aluminum is any better than wood from a crash safety perspective, particularly since real wood is used in plenty of cars with good safety ratings.

With the jump to the S550 they made the car so much better on the inside that these things are bound to come up, but it has to be remembered what the Mustang is, "affordable performance". Ford can't add all kinds of options and features and drive the cost of the vehicle up so that it loses the sense of what it is supposed to be, from the marketing perspective. We as individuals get to a point where we grow beyond a car's identity and want to tweak it so that grows with us, but the truth is that the car needs to maintain it's identity so that it can appeal to new generation of buyers. None of this is to say, that the car shouldn't update and evolve, but when a Mustang becomes an AWD with a DSG with a sticker of $60k it's not really keeping with what a Mustang is "supposed to be", again from the marketing perspective.
BTW; I'm a Jeep guy, and we know all too well about 'heritage' and 'legacy' getting in the way of evolution, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse! :ninja:

The main passenger airbag comes from the top of the dash

The glove box door is the knee airbag; it expands like an accordian when deployed.

Pretty sure the earliest Mustangs had wood dashes, so I don't see any conflict there (see the 1965 below)

.
Wood steering wheel ONLY
Rest of the "wood" is a decal.
Mustangs have never had wood in the interiors except for some steering wheels and your occasional 16 yr old in the backseat.

I guess I meant more the look wouldn't be deviating from Mustang tradition since it was used in early models. I would hope that the quality of most other interior materials has improved since 1965 (like using leather rather than vinyl, and better quality plastics).

I see your point, but I don't view a strip of walnut as being fancier than some of the currently available options like a big touch screen, backup cameras, cooled seats, parking sensors, etc. The Mustang, like a lot of its competitors, has a HUGE price range from the low end to the high end and is trying to be a lot of different things to different people. How much is really in common between a base V6 and a fully-optioned GT350R? Even look at the difference in price range between a base 3 Series and an M3, or a base A5 and an RS5. I think Ford will always keep the low end cheap, but I think if they are trying to get more buyers from European competitors, they would be wise to add in some options that the European brands offer. I feel like models like the FR-S/BR-Z are suffering because they are so Spartan and don't have a lot of the options that buyers want. I totally understand keeping the base cheap but don't see the harm in adding options and upgrades if the demand is there.

I care about infotainment
I'm getting so antsy waiting for the 2016 info to become official so I can start true negotiations with dealers. Obviously the pricing will be similar to the 2015s but even tiny differences in options and packages can make a big impact on final price. I want to walk into my dealer of choice on May 11th with the price already negotiated so I can just order and start obsessing over COTUS.

Do we think that the Premium cars getting Sync 3 that there will be a bump in the MSRP compared to 2015MY?

For various reasons I expect the 2016 pricing will be higher than the 2015. It may only be a couple hundred, but expect it to go up.
