After going in for the bonnet replacement, I then found proper rust in the seams of the boot lid (it's steel). I felt a bit weird going in again but the paintshop guy said straight away - "it's like the old Mondeo's". My local Ford paint shop had lost count of Mustang bonnets, F150 wings and Mondeo doors he'd done over the years.
Sounds like they wouldn't be suprised if I were to query it then, with the bootlid I thought those metal specs were somehow in the paint.

I had to have some work done in September after a bus rubbed against me so I'd probably ask the same place in Telford. I wouldn't be asking the Ford dealer in Hastings where I bought the car originally and they took months to reimburse me when I realised it had the wrong size tyre stretched to the rim.

Iv saw people say they've had multiple new bonnets and had the same issue so makes me wonder if end up going through the trouble getting it replaced only to have the issue be worse than it is now, especially how difficult the 3 stage paint is to match.

I don’t think you’ll have the problem with a U.K. painted bonnet. It seems to be a Flat Rock Friday Afternoon issue.

The problem isn’t the quality of the paint, it’s what’s underneath the paint that’s the problem ... :frown:

So, here’s a quick question - apologies if it’s been asked before - does this affect all S550’s or are garaged/covered cars less likely to show signs of corrosion?

it affects a lot of Fords full stop. The F150 apparently has the same. It’s not just bonnet, it’s wings and all sorts

It does not make any difference whether the car is garaged or not.

The fault lies in the manufacturing and paint process as evidenced by Fords TSB.This does mean that a replacement bonnet might experience the same issues over time as has occurred to Hinch I believe.

Might have to go the Cervini fibreglass route!!
