It has never completed.

I've sat in the driveway idling for well over an hour Twice, many short trips also. I connected the car to my home WiFi.

I'm still getting "updating..."

Of the moment update!!!

I just took Red out for a drive to get my Daughter and as I was finishing up my little drive the "Updating" Completed. Upon Restart, the Synch 1 is now Version 3!!!

YAY!!!

Now my Android is still connected via bluetooth, but Android Auto does not start and basically I'm unchanged symptoms. I assume I need to forget my phone and reconnect and try again.

you have to plug your phone in. At least that's the way I've see it work and read about it. Bluetooth still connects for calls but if you want the entire experience, you need to plug it in.

On my wife's 2024 EcoBoost Mustang, the whole shebob works, on all my other Synch cars, 19 F-150 & 18 Fusion Sport, I have to plug it in, so I am accustomed to that and I was plugging in.

I will test it again.

Thank you

If it still doesn't work, try a different cable. Mine is real sensitive to what kind of cable I use. I have to make sure it's rated as a Data and Charging cable or it just doesn't connect.

My 2017 GT350 w/ electronics package was built April of 2017 and was on it's original version of sync when I purchased it.

From reading the forums and watching YT videos I figured I'd be purchasing a new head unit to gain carplay functionality. I figured I'd at least update to the latest and greatest sync software. I tried via wifi, but it kept failing. Then I downloaded a bundle from Ford.com after registering my VIN with the site. I installed it from a USB drive connected through the front USB port.

About 1000 reboots later, everything was updated, noticeably faster, and I had functioning CarPlay. I kept getting disconnected, even using the cable I use for CarPlay in my truck. I ended up buying a new cable from that was certified specifically for my phone model, and connected it through the rear USB port in the console after reading the 2019+ CarPlay instructions. It works perfectly now. Being in IT, I usually scoff at cable certifications and such, but apple products don't lie, haha. +3000 for cable sensitivity.

Did you have to replace the USB Hub? I remember that being an issue with either CarPlay or Android Auto. Don't remember which one. I replaced mine just in case.

No, I did not replace any hardware.

Looking at the markings of the USB, everything looks to be stock, and I wouldn't imagine the previous owners replacing the USB port and leaving the sync software at the stock, 2017 version.

I think it's only the 2016s that needed a new hub

Mine is 2016.

Is there a technical document or such from Ford? Can I get his done under warranty?

Hmmm...
I wouldn't expect them to warranty the work but you never know. SBR70.3 linked the part he used back in post #18.

Replacing that USB hub is easy. Took me a few minutes. I ordered the OEM part and checked a couple YouTube videos to make sure I knew what I was doing.

Here's a YouTube Video. Really easy.

I didn't check the links posted earlier in this thread.

Back when the Sync 3 came out, this thread was extremely helpful in upgrading a '16 Tech to Sync 3. Just swap out the USB module in the console, log into the Ford's owner site and download what you need to the USB drive. Got Carplay up until last year and noticed there's another update needed. I'll do that when I get it on the road this season. Handy upgrade. Good luck!
