You're a master mechanic and I'm guessing you have pretty good job security with all these cars, I wonder why?
Any 4- banger with boost is bound to have issues. It's the sad truth, you have to worry about the turbo, AWD, and seals. IMO, they are nice looking cars, but just way too expensive for what they are.

Insurance rates SUCK on subarus, don't quote me on this but I believe they are the highest insurance cost due to the most tickets, wrecks etc... Why? Because the younger crowd LOVES subies.

The interior is pretty bland and any Subaru owner will admit it. To most wrx owners their defense is "interior doesn't matter too me". Sit in a wrx premium and and ecoboost premium and tell me which is a better cabin.

I'm not ragging on you or your cars, i just don't think they are a good purchase.
They do sound nice though! Especially the bug eyes.
you guessed wrong. Its the biggest reason i left subaru. The majority of my work was regular maintenance. a lot of shops are paid on book time not actual time. If a job gives 15hrs book time and you finish it in say, 5 hrs. You get paid for the full 15. I didnt make much more then 40-50hrs a week majority of the time. Most of my work was oil changes. I work at bmw and i currently get 110hrw weekly. Ive worked at toyota, ford, subaru and bmw. Ive been a master tech at all of them. But all that other opinion based comments about 4 cylinders this and that, is incorrect. If you think subaru owners interior isnt nice sit in the evo instead. Most subaru owners hate nor love the interior. Looks are always subjective. The interiors are not junk, they usually dont rattle and are solid. While not high end quality its not low end. Everything youve posted is subjective, assumed or opinion. Subaru's are not for everyone but they are great reliable vehicles.

mustang_guy,
Out of Toyota, Ford, Subaru, BMW, etc. which cars would you say are built the best? Which ones would you say have the highest quality parts put in them (alternator, window switches etc.) for the price?

I've always liked the WRX, but it seems a bit too "boy racer" for me. Even though I live somewhere where it rains a ton, and AWD would be great in the winter and shitty months. The Mustang is still the more fun car to me.
The WRX looks like a Corolla on steroids (I do drive a Corolla XRS lol)

So you're saying your ecoboost with a tune(pumped to around 21-24 peak boost) can run hard and not have to worry about issues ? As the 5.0 can run hard, and not have to worry about blowing a gasket.

Like I said again, I'm NOT ragging on anyone. Small boosted motors are bound to have problems and not be as reliable as the NA counterpart. It's the biggest disadvantage to turbo motors. Now the 2.3 I believe has been proven to be fairly reliable. It's only been a year though, give them 50k plus miles and we will see the problems arise...
I have been driving factory turbo charged 4cyl cars continuously since 1985 and all have had a Stage 1 (CAI, exhaust, tune) upgrades. All of them with the exception of my 13 Focus ST (fell in love with the 15 Ecoboost Mustang and had to have one) were kept for 7-10 years and none ever had a turbo or powertrain failure. All had over 100,000 miles when I got rid of them and several over 150,000 miles with the most being 240,000 miles. I was very active in the Shelby Dodge Club in the 90's and these numbers were not unusual.

Factory turbo cars are designed for the HP levels they operate at with a safety factor just like high HP NA engines. If you stay within the limits of the safety factor there is no reason not expect them to last as long as the NA equivalent.

If you beat the snot out of an engine and othwise don't take care of it they won't last regardless of whether they have forced induction or not.

Read my above post. I need to talk to no one. Subarus are very reliable. Its not an opinion, its my professional experience. Crap interior is subjective.:)
Come out here (Okinawa specifically) and you might reconsider Subaru reliability. Whoever thought a twin turbo EJ was a good idea needs a swift kick in the junk.

Id hope tt would blow it. They are either open deck ej 2.0l or semi open ej255 or ej257. We have closed deck blocks aftermarket for subarus now. They are already up to 1000+whp with no issues. People also use the 3.0 h6 motor for twins. Much better choice for twins. not much tp rethink. I was a mastertech and have owned 4 sti and an ej255 wrx. Great cars. My mother has a forester. We dont have to agree.

It was mostly sarcasm, but the EJ206 is a pain in the ass to work on. They are also really difficult to keep running well in the environment out here. The WRX/STI guys don't seem to have the same problems the B4 guys have though which is a plus. I really wanted to get my wife a Forester STI but there were none available when we got her car.

Hey, were you a master tech?

I know these are just facts from ignorant owners and not master techs, but I know Subaru refused warranty work on an sti claiming it had had nitrous run through it....which I know for a fact never had. Turns out the symptoms matched the now legendary ring/piston debacle. Subaru and the dealer didn't do shit...the master techs blamed the owner.

Dad tried out a '10 WRX. Was in for TO bearings every 5k miles. It would also rev itself up to 2500 or so rpm while coasting through parking lots/drive thrus at low speed clutch in...drawing stares from people thinking the 60 year old man was revving the engine to impress people or something. Subaru's master techs said this was 'normal operation'. When the dealer wasn't getting any cars shipped in due to the tsunami that f'd Fukushima, the dealership offered to buy it back for very little loss.

I wouldn't recommend.

There's a thread in the Mustang vs section that you may be interested in. The 2015 WRX is a sweet car, I have two buddies than own one. One stock, the other one has downpipe & stage 2 cobb tune. He's nowhere near 350WHP as a couple of videos show :)

Refusing a warranty claim because of what appears to be abuse by the owner happens with all brands, certainly not an indictment of Subaru.

I understand what you're trying to argue...

Companies sometimes refuse a claim because of what appears to be abuse
All brands do this
Therefore one cannot single out Subaru for refusing a claim based on what appeared to be abuse.

Your argument unfortunately is too vague to be applicable and therefore correct. I gave a specific example relating to a Subaru product. Saying other companies do the same does not somehow make it 'ok' and wash away the problem and alleviate Subaru's responsibility. Sorry, but you are incorrect, it most certainly is an indictment of Subaru.

Think of it this way, by the logic you present, the fact that OEMs cover up faulty products w/o issuing recalls spares GM responsibility in their ignition switch debacle. Do you think this is reasonable? There're major problems w/ the 'everybody does it' argument that you present.

Also, do some research into the specific issue at hand and let me know if Subaru acted justly in denying claims, or were simply denying that they produced a faulty product.

I have a 2015 wrx and I love it so far. Needed 4 doors, gf doesn't have a car, couldn't get a second car at the time.

I had a bolt on 2012 brembo 5.0, so I have an appreciation for mustangs and high hp v8s. Which is why I lurk at this site despite not even owning a mustang at the moment. I have my heart set on a gt350 and have been watching it very closely, as this site is the best place for breaking info/news.

Haven't modified the subaru, but many have and it is an absolute beast when turned up. The best thing about it is the sleeper status without the giant wing. Sure it looks like a corolla, and mine is black so its even less eye catching without the contrast of the white/black. But that part is awesome, it's just kind of plain but it will still haul ass.

The structure of the 15' is very rigid and it just feels solid, especially while turning the wheel at over 100. The chassis can handle huge amounts of power, but the stock brakes, tires, wheels, suspension are pretty puny.

The cloth interior is great for my girlfriends big ass 100lb dog and it's purposeful and durable, and passes the door slam test.

It just doesn't have the potential of the s550, for speed, handling, looks, power. The ecoboost mustang still has more potential it seems when mods come into play. Stock though, I've race a few ecostangs and the wrx has their number. Same with spirited back road drives, the stock wrx is very very fast and planted with the awd.

But....instead of modding mine, I'll keep it for a bit and save money for a down payment on the gt350, because I still have a huge place in my heart for a badass ford v8.

To each their own, if you need 4 doors or need awd for weather purposes...definitely give the wrx a look. I saw one in a parking lot at guitar center and the quad exhausts and wide stance struck me. I hadn't seen or even looked at a 2015 wrx online/in car mags before that so I had no idea what it was. I gave it a closer look and said "damn, that's a subaru?!"

It looks powerful and purposeful in person, pictures don't do this car justice.

14k mikes and no issues, I can't say anything about power loss from D.I. buildup, but it doesn't feel any different. Still pulls past 120 pretty easily on a daily basis.

I cross shopped the WRX and EB. I liked the WRX but loved the mustang. I'm sure I would enjoy the WRX more in the snow. But oh well, I'm getting snow tires. I'm not to hasty to take a WRX on from a dig, because that AWD traction and I don't have any with these crap all seasons.

Stay away from the subies. They're nothing but issues.
Not lies. Talk to a Subaru owner, see how much repairs they have too go through.

Don't know how much parts and maintenance cost since it's from AUS, so can't comment on that.

Plus the interiors are garbage, even the new 2015 with the "revised" interior.
Kind of upsetting when you pay 30k for a car and get a crap interior.

I personally think the interior is crap, especially for what you pay -- camry's accords, optimas and other's have better interiors for the same or less money. But you won't get AWD and a turbo (other than optima).

Either way, I like Subaru's, but I wouldn't own one. My friend has an XV Crosstrek and it's had to go in for check engine light issues and some sensor inside the issue went bad a few time (crank shaft sensor or some shit went bad). It's been in the shop 3 times in 4k miles. The car has around 7k on it right now. The service is great and they do get loaners though!

Simon, they do offer 2016 with auto trans (CVT).

Also. I own 2002 wrx with 300awh and about 70k on the odo. No issues yet. Not one complaint. The interior might be plain but it's a lot better compared to a 2007 focus I own. The one thing I love about my wrx is that it's so easy to work on. Normal bolts/screws, no special super secret tools needed like with Ford. Easy access to everything, excluding spark plugs.

No doubt it's a boy racer thou.
