Can't seem to find any thread like this, but i'm a little new so I may be missing them. Apologies if this is a repeated thread.

Already did some research into upgrading from my 4" screen to Sync3 with 8" touchscreen and full kits are running pretty pricey. Before I go that route, I'd like to know what non-proprietary/3rd party options have worked well for others here.

I want to do this right, and really make sure it doesn't look/feel janky, but my experience is limited to your basic stereo replacements as found on Crutchfield so a whole lot of wire splicing, and buying a piece here or there isn't real appealing, but I'll muddle through it if its worth it.

Any photos appreciated! Thanks in advance!

EDIT:: Looking for something that pairs best with iPhone

Metra / Schosche with an aftermarket headunit will probably be around $800 all said and done but could be cheaper with a lower quality headunit. The Metra / Schosche parts have been known to fail and look ugly imo.

8" Android headunit will look like a factory unit but operate differently, I really liked mine.

10" Android headunit (Seicane) looks good but slightly different finish from the factory setup, they seem to do pretty well.

Tesla style units vary widely. I've seen some comments on Facebook about how there are new "fast boot" units that start up in 5 seconds and are otherwise smooth (this is coming from a guy that literally just installed it yesterday so no time for Android lag to build up).

Best look/feel would be the Sync 3 upgrade. It's factory equipment, has good sound quality, enables drive modes, and is just as easy to install as the above options if you buy a premade harness (ie Hextall's one). Including the Scantool and harness, my Sync 3 swap cost $812.47. My 8" Android one was about $400.

Thanks! I'm looking into Hexall's kit, but for a base model 2015 it's looking to be around $1700 for the upgrade. I'm not unopposed to spending that much, but I'm trying to see if there's a less expensive alternative first.

You don't have to buy the kit, you can get all the pieces yourself and save money. No point in spending over double what I did for the exact same thing, I've got a base model car too.

Would you be willing/able to PM me the links to where you got the pieces from? I don't mind sourcing parts, but I'm always afraid of the quality trying to hunt them down myself. I like having recommendations for dealers/vendors.

GPS antenna: https://www.ebay.com/itm/GPS-Antenn...h=item5887fb4407:g:R30AAOSwcTRa87-9:rk:1:pf:0
Sync 3 Hub: https://www.ebay.com/itm/FITS-Ford-...h=item3d83184374:g:DyoAAOSwlE5bRJBy:rk:2:pf:0
FR3Z-14D202-A / FR3Z-14D202-B I ordered from Levittown Ford
Scantool OBDMXII I ordered direct from them, they send you a coupon if you sign up for the mailing list (spoiler: its 10FIRST)

The APIM and Screen I got on eBay and timed it with one of their sitewide 15% off coupons.
Bezel was either ebay or a member on here selling, can't remember off the top of my head right now.

Harness from Hextall (price may have gone up).
