Correct for a drag only car....However, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say not many NA 1/4 mile cars are running a 3.31...

However, I'm guessing OPs car is a street car, and therefore would benefit from a gear.
Agreed. But you said to elaborate -- and I said a time when a higher gear would not be better.

I personally don't like higher gears -- I like a longer first gear and on a sub-500 hp car would rather stay in first longer than have to hit second right away.

Zemedici how do you like your 3.73s? I know they require more shifting around town but I bought a manual expecting to shift

I love it. If ford Racing would hurry up and come up with a shorter gear (like a 4.10) I would swap that in potentially, and drag a bunch of cars. :)

Now my girls 2.9 whipple car could DEFINITELY use a 3.31, it seems as soon as the blower makes peak power you gotta shift.

touché sir

and aside from the drag strip, there's not many other useful applications :), agreed?

Do elaborate where a moderately powered NA car would NOT benefit from a higher gear ratio?
Because at some point it become possible to over gear a car. The MT82 has pretty steep gearing from the factory as does the 6R80. One of the reasons the fastest autos run a 3.15/3.31 gear.

they also have FI the majority of the time.....

3.73s is not over gearing a MT82. Hence why they came with them.....:)

Was that auto or manual?
What gears are in your 2015?
My 2011 and 2015 are/were the same. Both with autos and both have/had 3.15's.

I think you should start with a tune and THEN decide if a gear change is necessary. You might have a different opinion then of the car. Lots of guys have 3.73's and wish they had 3.31's.

I've had a cai, tune, exhaust and jms pedalmax for a while now. It was good at first but I got used to it. I'm now looking for something more. I actually wanted 3.73 since I got the car. I tried to change my order but it was too late since the factory already started the build.

Why do guys wish they had 3.31s? Is it just the short first gear and having to shift more? I know it'll hurt gas mileage but I'm ok with that since I don't think it will be too extreme of a change.

Well that explains why my '14 GT 6R80 is so damn slow - gotta be them damn 4.10's I have! My very heavy, very minimally modded Naturally Aspirated GT "only" runs 11.50's to 11.60's in the 1/4 mile.

All kidding aside, the 4.10's make my car so much funner to drive on the street. If the OP isn't going to race the car and is looking for entertainment value on the street, then his choice to go with 3.73's (or even more gear) is a sound choice.

This coming from the guy who stuck 4.56's behind his MT82 and thought THOSE were a good choice.:clap2::lol:

Actually the gearing in the 2015 mt82 trans changed, having 373,s is like having 355,s now.Na with the weight of this car,373 with the manual is a good idea if ur planning to go to the track.
