2015 Mustang Production / Ordering Schedule

I called my dealer today and spoke with the guy I've been working with. He told me I still don't have a VIN, but that he will talk to somebody in Ford to prioritize my order and trade one of his dealer stock orders for my order. He said I should get a VIN in about 10 days (instead of the typical week he has told me each time we have spoken in the past) and I should call him again then. He also re-iterated that nobody is getting any new Mustangs until first week in November. I did not bring up the 5 week order delay.

I know he said it was a media car. No one, other than Ford representatives, are going to drive a pre-production car without waiving all liability on Ford's part and those waivers are not offered except in special situations (such as letting a professional driver pilot one as a pace car).

The pre-production cars are not street legal. Ford employees can drive them on public roads. They are for public appearances, car shows, crash tests, fitment tests, performance tests (by Ford), etc. You won't see Ford handing over the keys to a pre-production car for an independent media evaluation drive. That's why there have only been ride along sessions to date.

The "media" cars that are actually test driven independently on public roads and test tracks will come from the first production batch. They are street legal, have no liability issues, and can be sold, donated, loaned, or leased to anyone.

The majority of the pre-production cars will lose their usefulness once production begins. Most will end up scrapped since it is too expensive to store them. A few may end up in museums, top Ford executive private collections, or donated to Technical School auto shops - all with the stipulation that they will not be driven on public roads. The donated pre-production cars also come with the agreement that they will be destroyed when Ford gives the order.

Not trying to be pedantic, but independent test drives occuring before Job1 would be unusual.

"Right now Mustang will not be pulled to the plant for scheduling until September 11th. I'm not sure whether they will be pulling Retails yet. We'll need to have an OK to Buy before Retails will pull. Right now we can only wait and see but if it does pull on September 11th then it may not arrive until November because that will most likely be October production. Its very hard to say right now when the customer can expect his Mustang. Sorry, I know he's probably very anxious for his new Mustang. Once I know something I'll let you know."

Ive been in touch with my local sales manager since the day order banks opened (still not ordered) and he told me things very similar...

I've been debating placing my order, so keeps me periodically informed. In May, he told me "some time in June" he would have his dealer orientation with a rep bringing the new Mustang. No word until late July, figured he flaked, but then said it would be in town "within a month" and hinted at everything Mustang being a tad behind schedule.

Later, in discussing ordering my car in his stock allotment, he told me "no matter what, dont expect them until November December."

So for now, I'll wait and decide what color I want

I placed my order on 7/28, yet it's still not being found in COTUS

It took a little over 2 weeks for mine to show up in COTUS, but it finally did. Not sure why really.

LE's for sure and maybe EB's aren't showing in cotus for some reason. Etis shows my LE but no information. Dealer search shows my build date.

It is a production car. When the cars reach the on sale date the new window stickers will be sent out and installed. Until then it has to be marked as not for sale. I didn't even pay attention to the BJ part, it was ordered by a TX dealer. The VIN is a production VIN, which I believe the first VIN was sold at BJ for charity. The buyer is likely taking delivery in TX.

The LE is being sold at an upcoming auction the last LE being built and that would have a P8R vin not a P8C.

I could be wrong, I only vaguely pay attention to how people with more money than me spend it so my facts could be off.
