2015 Mustang Production / Ordering Schedule

From what I've observed, cars at this stage in the game could very well be sold. In fact, it isn't unheard of for late-preproduction cars to considered saleable if they meet all production specs without any bugs. So, cars going down the line to verify tooling set up and for trial builds could very well see the light of day, assuming they pass QC.

FWIW, I would be shocked if crash testing hasn't been completed well before Job1. I would think that sort of thing has to signed off during validation testing, and they're well past that now.

Maybe so, but do you think those are specifically optioned based on an order from the system? I mean they're not assuming it'll be good to sell, but it may just turn out that way. So people shouldn't expect to see a build date of 7/14 on their order. Or maybe the training part happened already and 7/14 is when they start ramping up production?

Someone did just post they got a 7/29 build date for their car. I'm guessing that's a LE but it wasn't made clear which model that was for. That's only two weeks from the 14th so it ramps up faster than I was thinking it would, but that's a good thing.

I would expect that they'd build cars at that stage that are generally common (and saleable) combinations. That way they're not sticking some dealer with a car no one wants if it does pass.

At the same time, though, I think they'd have to try to build examples of each option available, it whatever combination seems appropriate, to make sure that there are no hiccups on bringing in any specific but unique parts. Basically, they'll have to try each significant variable. So, there will base cars, PP cars, cars with 68B & PP, 50th appearance cars, etc.

Once they've cleared all that and they're confident in the line, then they'd start building to specific orders. Or at least that's my guess.

Yes the order can be put in the system and you get a print out, but you will still get the error code above. I have an order in Concepts and printed on DORA, but none of that means anything if the error code appears.

How does explain people who have completed orders that are showing on the tracking website?

It means you might see cars arrive at dealers before 9/9 but they won't be able to sell them until that date. The first ones "on the street" will most likely be for automotive journalists to test.

You won't see anything shipped to dealers until they've been fully checked out for any QC issues. That can take several weeks, not to mention the time it takes to schedule transport and actually ship out. There's lead time involved with getting cars on trains and getting trains routed.

If early production goes well you'll probably see some in mid to late August in showrooms. My dealer is scheduled to have a Mustang onsite on 8/4 for staff training. They've also invited select customers to attend. I'm not sure if this car will be a production or pre-production model.

It sounds logical to assume that very shortly Ford Dealerships will finally be able to take Deposits on for individual Special Retail Orders for 2015 Mustang Convertibles. Even being able to submit a Retail Order for a Convertible in the Unscheduled Order Bank will mean, once accepted, that you will at least be in queue for eventual Delivery.

After speaking to Ford, though, we wouldn't put a great deal of stock in those dates as reported. We reached out to Said Deep, Ford's North American Product Communications Manager.

"There are multiple build schedules for any product that we build," Deep told Autoblog. "We don't recognize any of those dates."

LOL c'mon Autoblog, when does Ford EVER recognize any of these rumors? They didn't recognize the May 20th order date either and we all know how that turned out.

Well - it does take less than a day for final assembly but many of the subassemblies take much longer (body/paint, engine, transmission, etc.). It just depends on what part of the car you define as the start of production. If you choose the engine or the transmission, it could have been many months ago.
