I was informed of the ECU reflash update on 4-1-15 by Ford Customer service manager Marie and the Ford dealership and it would be released on the 15th or 17th. The ECU reflash update was released yesterday morning 4-16-15.
If there was an ECU reflash update released, I would think there is also a corresponding TSB along with it. Anyone hear of a new TSB for the 5.0L Coyote ECU reflash?

Moody - your car sounds like an isolated case since it seems hardly anyone else here has any issue close to yours. If you still want a Mustang, I'd try to get a new one through the lemon law since it seems they can't figure this one out. Sorry you got dealt a bad card - it does happen, and it's unfortunate. Probably why the lemon law was invented in the first place.

The codes they pulled were PO303 & PO305 and found 2 cracked spark plugs - cylinders 3 & 5. This supposedly cleared the codes and it started perfectly 3 times in a row. the salesman was attempting to deliver it back to me and the long crank issue presented itself again, but no check engine light this time and no codes?!? service manager said he witnessed the issue 3 times today but had no idea as to what was causing the issue. fuel pressure checked out ok too.
Not sure if anyone asked, but did the dealer replace all of the spark plugs while working on it? Could be some of the plugs (if left in) might also be bad, but not bad enough to cause a mis-fire and CEL set.

If there is no longer a CEL, but it is just taking too long to fire up, then it has to be reason that can not be sensed by the ECU.

GT Pony I had the exact same starting issue he did and as it started happening the longer I drove it before bringing it back to the dealer the worse the starting issue seemed to get. Im a technician at a mercedes-benz dealer and I have some automotive knowledge and understand how things work with brand new cars that are new generations and issues that they get being so new and having new features and options. When listening to mine start up it sounded like it had a lack of fuel. I was able to get a brand new mustang under some different circumstances and my old service advisor said he would update me on my old mustang what they found was a fix, they also have not found a fix and have no idea whats wrong. I really wish I could get the car back to diagnosis it myself a little.

The reflash was released on 4-16 and did not work. 47 days in the shop and still not fixed. i’m done with Ford, this has been the worst experience ever. They exceeded the time frames of Lemon law 2 weeks ago. i had to argue with them about replacing the car. they sent the replacement documents to their 3rd party (non-ford) reacquired vehicle department (RAV) stating “discretionary replacement” meaning i just didn’t like the car. i didn’t want another mustang because they can’t even tell me what’s wrong with this one. Their idea of an alternate replacement is a joke MSRP to MSRP only (fusion titanium, edge, 2wd explorer). at that point i told them to just refund all my money. RAV said ford CSM would have to approve that. so i call ford back, the CSM told me RAV handles everything from this point and i could not speak with the supervisor. after more arguing with ford i conferenced in their RAV dept. RAV backed me up & corrected ford CSM on how their process actually works. After this the ford CSM supervisor calls me and said they are canceling my “discretionary replacement case” and would now be processed as a Lemon Law refund case. why did i have to explain fords own processes to them?
Hey moody, I think mine did this yesterday....it has done it in the past but haven't done it in a few weeks...yesterday I went to start it and it began starting then cut off ...the service thing flashed went away then started...does it get worse or is it something that just randomly happens? thanks

i thought it was random, but then it would happen every time the engine was warmed up the shut off for +-15min. try this to see if it happens.

start car take a 10 - 15 minute (easy drive) get it to normal running temp
once at temp park & shut car off for 10 - 15 min
try to start again

did you get the long crank issue?

Im wondering if this is an electrical issue? Ive had a car with a bad harness, wasn't new by any means, but just to throw it out there.

Didn't find out what was wrong with the car until I pulled the whole harness and examined every wire. The wire insulation was just rotting off, looked like play doe.
It would work fine all day, and some days never turn on. After new harness was installed, ran for good. maybe some one was having a bad case of the Mondays, and yankd on the engine harness during install and fd up the wires.

Another thing, If in fact their was a clicking clanking noise on the engine. What if these fords had the bad casting like the old 6.0 diesels did? or t he 4.6 and 5.4 f series, that were shooting out plugs. which could cause loss of compression, which would effect afr/ hot spots in the combustion chamber, a lot of weird stuff. this happened on my friends mustang btw it was a 4.6 sohc.

I also read that the spark plugs on coyotes are a 2 metal piece design aside from the porcelain, so 3 parts? which is prone to break apart, I believe champion made the 1 piece metal/ porcelain piece design. not entirely sure about this one, but could be whats clicking down there, if it broke.

cars are mechanical things, manufactured by people, with parts cast and assembled by people that have annoying kids and crazy wives just like half the people on here.

Sad to say it does happen, ive had my fair share of bs with this one, but its a new gen car, it happens. but doesn't mean you have to settle for it.

sorry for your troubles friend.

I'm sorry to hear bud. I really hope this is an isolated issue as I've had similar issues with other cars in the past and don't want to deal with another car in the shop as much as yours has been.

I will not be surprised if the remedy is super simple like crankshaft or camshaft sensor replacement or something similar.

It seemed random at first, but it started to happen quite often. My GT has been in the shop for 63 consecutive days. Ford is in the process of buying it back under the lemon law.

Unfortunately I think this is getting worse...definitely happening more often. I did notice it does do it when the engine is warm still. Have they found a fix?

Check your camshaft and crankshaft sensors. Very possible culprit.
