Just wanted to ask a question. I am doing a resto mod and trying to use the steering rack out of a 2015 gt. I have the whole wiring harness and ecu steering rack all out of same car. Does the rack have to be refreshed or programmed when hooked back up. Dont know much about this type of stuff. A lot of the sensors will not be used I dont know if that will make a difference. Thanks Joe

I do not think that is a good idea. Yes, it will have to be programmed to the car, for sure. Outside of that, there is a lot of geometry compensation through software that is designed for a certain vehicle per its parameters. It is not as easy as it sounds. I would not use an electric steering gear assembly on an old chassis. You're asking for issues and possible safety concerns.

Ok thanks for the info . It has a Fatman front clip and is already set up with a mustang II power rack. Just didnt want to spend the extra on a pump kit . Gives me something to think about thanks Joe

The Mustang's EPAS isn't simply an electrically assisted steering rack. It's way, waaaay more than that. It's not a rack you can just run power to and everything works.

EPAS actively does all sorts of stuff, like handling road-crown, out of balance wheels & tires, and other stuff, so you never know it's happening. Filters it all out. And it's also user adjustable for effort, with 3 or 4 basic settings.

Hey Joe,

I had created this technical reference thread for the EPAS unit.

Within that first post, scroll down and you will see a hyperlink on how to remove the EPAS for any type of repairs.

Plus there's a lot of other EPAS tech too.

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/s550-epas-pscm-tech-accumulation.160616/

Hope something there is helpful.
