A lot of people don't realize how easily the tech/base cars go into limp mode. 7-9 minutes on the track is sad let alone hitting limp mode on the street. Ford screwed up big time and should take responsibility. So, just to give another account of the issue. I took my car out Saturday afternoon for a ride on some long and curvy back roads. It was 77 degrees. Not driving crazy fast or really beating on the car. Mildly spirited driving at best. I had it up to 80 a few times and was mostly rolling through 3rd and 4th gear from about 4000 to 7000 rpm. After about 30 min of this the car went into limp mode. Funny there was no indication on the dash or anything but the car just wouldn't rev above 5500 anymore. So I shifted into 5th and just slowly cruised along for the rest of the ride. I was very surprised at how easily it got there. I already planned on doing some coolers this winter so I'm not really too upset. I would have thought it would have taken allot more to get there.

I think a lot of people would be interested in detail about your cooler install. Can you list parts, cost, ect.Sure thing. I have my coolers on a manual switch. Since my fluid change to BG SynchoShift my trans temps rarely get above 180 without the cooler on even when driving for an hour+. The thermostatic switch that comes with the Weldon 9200 doesn't even click on until 196.
I have all the info of my install if you have any questions. Good luck!
No, not yet. Wish I would have just to see. I keep saying I'm gonna order that stuff but haven't yet. I can say after 10 min or so of just cruising in 5th gear, I pulled it down to 3rd and rolled in the throttle and hit fourth. I ran third up to 8200 and 4th to about 7000 before I ran out of open highway. Everything felt fine.Hey Eric,
Have you turned on your transmission temp using the Forscan/OBDLinkMX fix? I think it would be an extremely valuable mod for you and your 350. I've encountered the conditions you wrote of above in my 350 and haven't hit limp mode...you might have something else going on (not to say you do, but it might be something to consider). Good luck with your cooler mod![]()
Spirited driving for sure! No, not yet. Wish I would have just to see. I keep saying I'm gonna order that stuff but haven't yet. I took lots of detailed pictures in the process, and shortly after my phone broke, so I lost all my notes and pictures. I'm trying to get the phone working again and hopefully then I can detail it all out.I think a lot of people would be interested in detail about your cooler install. Can you list parts, cost, ect.
Curious on how you did the install as well. Been planning out my attack but a little foggy on where to start.I took lots of detailed pictures in the process, and shortly after my phone broke, so I lost all my notes and pictures. I'll get a parts list and a write up done. The pictures will just have to wait until I can get this phone back on.Very generous Chris!
Appreciate your offer. Have you posted your info? If so, could you provide the link? If not, could you? I think quite a few of us would appreciate the work you've done!
Thanks again:cheers:
I think you assume way too much...I don't think you understand how this works.
Ford Performance Parts had the only two available in stock. Mike at Buyfordracing was the selling dealer in both cases (which was actually three but the third one was held up initially and then allowed to be sold to the respective customer). Any FPP dealer could have called in to lay claim to what was actually in stock at the FPP warehouse. Mike was the only one.
FPP has since instituted a policy whereby a VIN is required as a form of authentication to show that the purchaser owns a Tech Pack GT350. Any FPP dealer can sell one, and once the paperwork is approved the unit gets drop shipped from the FPP warehouse.
So the FPP dealers that are quoting numbers that keep getting posted here have yet to even sell one and don't have them stocked wherever they reside.
From what I can tell he isn't making assumptions, but he's giving away some really good information to the rest of us. My take away is to at least consider buying from Mike at BuyFordRacing, because there's not necessarily any benefit in buying from a local dealer.I think you assume way too much...
So 2 trans were sold by one retailer. That's great that a couple guys got a deal. when the trans are available again I hope that they will go for $2700, but I have a feeling that that price isn't going to be available.
Unless Ford Performance comes up with authorized pricing according to VIN.
But claiming that the price will be $2700, based on that one time "sale" when all other indications show it going for $4800, is just an assumption on your part.
