Any transmission that will hold power if cheap enough will end up in other cars it happens all the time.
There are better options than the 3160 if you're looking for power, their prices are not cheap and you're not precluded from buying the transmission itself through sources other than Ford Performance.

You can get 6060s all day long for under $3500.

Chris, if you look at the factory line size #6 is plenty for that pump and the factory oil cooler. The Weldon pump is a low pressure/low volume pump so smaller lines are needed make it work. The Weldon is very compact, we looked at it but it comes with a price tag.

The Mocal pump we are testing in our GT rear axle cooler kit is rated for 1-3GPM. It's also rated for 350F and weighs about 7lbs. It's overkill so it will last a longtime. The idea is to give enough time for the heat exchange to take place. At the end of the day cooling of any kind is better than zero cooling. You use a pump with higher flow capacity and larger lines Plus you run real manual trans fluid in it

I agree. My Tilton pump is rsted at 1.7 gpm. I did that in place of mocal because of the continuous duty rating. On a 73 and sunny day my highest trans temp was 203. This is running 3/8 lines.

I went with the DIY kit in the 6G forum i.e. mocal pump, 8 AN fittings etc....just the steel braided line was approx. $200. I have approx. $600 or so in parts and figuring about another 700-1K in labor when done.

BUT, when done, I think it may be a much better option than the Ford Kit and ALOT cheaper than a $4800 transmission plus installation and other "items".

Wasn't the original price 2700?

It was the last run of the day so I was pushing pretty hard, also, on the previous run I forgot to turn the cooler on right away. The temp came down immediately on the cool down lap. Still a long ways away from limp mode. Some people see 240's just street driving without the coolers.

The suggested retail price from Ford Performance Parts is (or was) $4,800.

Nobody is expected to pay that. You can order it for far less from most any competent FRP dealer. Mike at Buyfordracing sold the only units FRP had set aside for sale for $2,700 - shipped.

A TR6060, while extremely robust, is a bad match for use in the current GT350. It is physically larger, heavier, and not "tuned" to work behind the Voodoo powerplant. It does not like to be shifted at high rpm. Could it be made to work? Certainly. But not without substantial cost.

Im guessing they know the flow rate of the internal pump and matched it. Is the kit warrantied?
The transmission isn't warrantied if you buy that - according to Ford Performance. I would ASSUME that the cooler isn't warrantied either.

I thought it was rumored that track packs and R's wer 3gpm
It's a fact and was reported by Steve Turner in an article for SVT/performance.

Steve Turner said:
As you are likely aware, the Track Pack-equipped GT350 and the GT350 R are fitted with an external transmission cooler for additional cooling at the race track. The cooler is fed by this integral pump, which is driven by the front cluster. It pumps about 3 gallons per minute, which is sufficient for cooling, but not enough to introduce a lot of parasitic loss in the transmission
If you do a Google image search for "Tremec TR3160 Steve Turner" you'll see photos that will link you to the article.

From the article and with respect to why a TR6060 wasn't used, a quote from Jamal Hameedi...

“The transmission, for sure, isn’t as stout as a 6060. This has got a dual-mass flywheel, which does ease the shock loads going into the trans,” he explained. “We never even thought of putting a 6060 in because they are way too heavy.”

And from Nate Tovey of Tremec...

“Like a GT350 next to a GT500, the TR-3160 is like a surgical instrument next to a sledgehammer when compared to the TR-6060. Though what the 3160 gives up in size and torque capacity, it makes up for in weight savings and high-rpm shiftability.” Nate said. “It uses a ‘6060-esque’ synchro package that, in conjunction with its reduced internal mass, translates into a significant gain in synchronizer capacity. It also employs a multi-rail shift mechanism that allows for a more compact design and optimized placement of the shift forks for an improved shift feel.”

I wasn't suggesting the 6060 be used in the 350s application. It was a response to why I still don't understand why they should restrict sale of transmissions in the first place.

Now that Buyfordracing sold their 2 transmissions for $2700, please explain who else is doing the same if we are not expected to pay $4800.

The $4800 has been the most consistent pricing with the $2700 being the outlier.

The only way you'd pay $4,800 is if you went to your local dealership and ordered it there. If you go through a retailer like BuyFordRacing or Autonation Ford White Bear Lake (a 6G site sponsor) you'll pay less.
