They're sending those ugly fat lambs to the slaughter eh?

I can't wait to show one my taillights.

Pill... somebody keyed the gt and the focus st last week. Right across the hoods of both cars. Who would do such a thing?

No, it won't... The last time I had a good idea and mentioned it to Chevrolet, they crucified me. Did you know I had a Camaro5, feedback driven, fully rendered 2013 Z28 concept built for Chevy?

It flowed and rolled with curves and lines... It was tucked and nipped and tighter and leaner... It was meaner, had more grill area and was slightly shorter.

I wanted (and expressed this openly) that I wanted a 2013 Z28 before the refresh (they said I was insane) coming shortly after. It would have given the Z28 fans a '13 and '14 Z28.

No, No, No... It was pissed away. They were led into a dead end street fight with a 662HP GT500 (THAT I WARNED THEM ABOUT) with the ZL1. They are about to feed this '14 z28 to a very nasty GT350 (and possibly the GT-R could give trouble).
pics/links or it didnt happen lol. dont think i was around back then.

NVM found it. good reading so far.

Dinner is served!!!! If Ford doesn't capitalize on a possible GT350 vs. z28 showdown, I'll be surprised. It looks like the z28 will be on the dinner table in spring (Not confirmed), hopefully we can see an SVT GT350 around the same time. Some may wonder why Chevy is choosing this Spring 2014 release... Well... lets speculate...

Option #1: The z28 is fast, really fast, more so on short and medium tracks. It has a pretty low top speed and, that could actually present a problem at a track like the Ring/Sebring/VIR when compared to the ZL1. The ZL1 has about a 12mph advantage over the z28 at the Ring... but, a heatsoaked ZL1 won't last nearly as long. Either way, Chevy may believe that they have a perfect weapon against the lighter, newer and possibly cheaper GT350.

Option #2: Delays... delays, delays, delays... There are no parts restraints on the 2014's so, it would have to be something stupid like, ummmmm.... Carbon Fiber Mohawk Heat Extractors. It could be that, they cannot get a good Ring time and, know very well they will be questioned about the Ring. Spring is also the start of the season but, since the z28 is riddled with super-illegal components, I doubt Motorsports were the reason. Remember, the 2015 Camaro's will be released in August/September 2015. I suspect Chevy will choke the supply to ramp up 2015 z28 demand and sales (like the Zl1).

Option $3: Chevy has probably been blindsided again... They were probably betting the Boss would be long gone and the GT500 wouldn't return right away... Then release the z28 to distract people from the new Mustang. This is actually a pretty straight forward approach but, could backfire.

The initial sales (last two months) of the 2014 were not what I expected. In the past, the Mustang has had similar limited success from major changes. The 2010's refresh spiked sales over 10,000, the Coyote had less impact at 8800, the '12 and the new Boss scored another 10,000+ sales on the first full month of sales... The '13 held on at 9300... What does this mean for the '14 Camaro... Well, the first month of sales is always the best... The dealerships receive there floor models, initial pre-orders are shipped and fleet sales pad a majority of sales the first month. At 8900, winter sales will be pretty bad. There are a lot of pre-'13 Camaro's left as well, still unsold, and perhaps selling before the '14.

Where does the Camaro go from here???

Wait a minute.... didn't most insist that Bumblebee was just a "Movie Car"?

Here is a little secret, the cost to make a clay is tremendous... This new car was done by Chevrolet and appears wasn't ready for the '14.... Could there be a 2015 swap to make the z28 even more competitive and modern? I'm not an idiot, and even though I joke about Chevy engineers, I know very well they aren't stupid either. This is the Camaro's version of the '13-'14 Mustang to warm people up to the '17 Camaro.

MORE COOLING!!! GREAT!!! This is the direction they needed to go...

I still don't understand why this lunch box on wheels...

Was the direction they decided on instead of my flowing 2013 Z/28 I based on the 2006 Concept.

(Not the 2010 SS, concept mirrors are present)

and then go back to the Bumblebee if sales blow...

New spy shots of the z28 lapping Nurburgring, we probably won't see a time. This was likely the event I was told about the ZL1 vs. z28 mph differences.

The video is somewhere, the media isn't real enthused about the z28.

The z28 is having trouble breaking 160mph (10mph slower than the 2012 Z06) and is about equal to the ZL1 in about 3 other areas. I'm sure they will tune it up to get a better time...

Still waiting...

Edit: I guess the z28 isn't even close to being finished, they won't finish up until the car can produce a better time... By hook or by crook... Could push production out. I don't know if that is correct though.

For reference, the 2012 Z06 and 2012 ZL1 have nearly identical exit speeds in most corners (especially before the 3km straight), the ZL1 is less stable though resulting in a slower time. I doubt the z28 will have more stability without the MRC... It will take a pro to ring it.

I think the stiffer suspension will make it much harder than the MRC ZL1. The z28 just cannot get the speed the Z06 and ZL1 has. I am willing to bet that the z28 will be faster at a short/medium track. Letting the ZL1 and Z06 gain speed on longer straights is hard to overcome. I'm sure they will tune it as much as they can to help...

I don't think any manufacturer that runs a full cage should use Nurburgring as a marketing tool. It's the same princlple as advertising a "race" car when you can't even get it sanctioned anywhere. If Ford were to release the '13's GT500 numbers with drilled rotors and a cage, I wouldn't approve. Now, get those stock GT500's and ZL1 on an American track, head to head, and we see the GT500 and ZL1 exchanging wins...

The only reason Chevy hangs their hat on Nurburgring is because the Mustang sent their ass there... They couldn't drag race anymore  and nobody can dispute the claims... You literally cannot run a full tourist lap EVER!!! Hows the ZL1 doing in Grand Am and SCCA? How is the z28 going to do? Why waste time on a track when your product is worthless there.

7:41 at the Ring but on the US circuit, the GT500 is just as good. How about that 11.9@120mph quarter mile? Still waiting for that to happen

What are the chances the ZL1's 7:41 couldn't be replicated as the 1/4 mile times haven't? Because that is how I view this... If you can't make your advertised 1/4 mile times stick, I doubt your Ring time is credible as well.

Maybe we should ask him where all the 5th Gen Camaro's road racing championships are... I haven't seen any of those.

They can run a 7:41 on the other side of the planet but they can't win a championship at home. Wherever they need to run to avoid the Mustang, let them go. Drag racing is out of the question, you can't handle the S197 there. So, lets p@ssy out like in 2002 and just quit and play somewhere else.

Nurburgring Lap Time Countdown:

The 2014 Stingray looks to be slightly faster than the 2012 ZL1... The '14 Stingray is also faster than the 2014 z28. I don't believe the z28 beat the ZL1's time yet... There are some track closures in the next few weeks so, they still have time...

We are waiting for Chevy to hopefully, release some video or an official time soon.

Edit: The upside of this would be IF, the z28 cannot lap faster than the $60,000 Stingray and the $56,000 ZL1, Chevy could attract a lot of buyers with a $49,000-$54,000 MSRP shocker...

If they can manage to beat the C7's time, it could mean a HUGE base MSRP.

Now that I think of it, who the hell authorized the Stingray and z28's Nurburgring development. At the same time???? Why would you jeopardize a performance/MSRP debate against these two on the world stage??? They already said the '14 z28 will be the most expensive Camaro but, that puts it in the range of the Stingray... I don't see the z28 outpacing the Stingray... anywhere... on any day...

So why pay more for less performance and street-ability. Also, at the great expense of the drag racing crowd and forced induction.

Still no organized racing sanctioning effort. Didn't Ed Welburn specifically say that he wants Camaro fans to look out on the Grand Am circuit and know that they can buy THAT very car from Chevrolet? Hows that working out Ed??

Scheduled Track Closures for last week were for...

Lamborghini
Ferrari
BMW (M3 crashed)
Range Rover

Chevy had the track the 2nd week of September... They usually don't get back to back reservations.

Weather for the next 2 weeks is in the Low 40's - Mid-50's with a few days of 60-62. Humidity will stay over 80% for the remainder of the season. I don't think there is enough time for a z28 record run. The September runs were poor and will likely not be released. This is rumor though... ;)

Edit: Chevy needs to beat the Stingray to drum up some major media buzz. The media has gone pretty much dead on everything z28... If they can't muster a faster time than at least the ZL1, this will be a super botched release...

Something to think about...

The 2014 z28 was built to "Beat anything... ANYTHING, Ford could put out on the street". It was also recently confirmed that the ZL1 was originally intended to be the z28 and they didn't want to use the name on anything that wasn't deserving (take that ZL1 fans). I was wondering, that is IF the ZL1 did indeed destroy the '13 GT500... Wouldn't the ZL1 have already done that?

Yes, yes... I know, I know... The ZL1's Nurburgring time isn't up there and the GT500 doesn't have one. Boo hoo!!! You need more than a hero Nurburgring lap to make up that damage. The GT500 was driven faster than the ZL1 at Laguna Seca with Randy driving... I also know the Lightning Lap isn't up there... The one where the cars are run in traffic on different days in different weather by 4 different drivers... Okay, you got me...

But looking at the initial test results in the green and red, I can see why a z28 was ordered up. In fact, the name change may have been a reaction to the news of a GT500 coming soon to wipe the ZL-Whatever from the face of the media's Earth. Surely, Team Camaro and SVT were over at the industry pool at Nurburgring in June 2011... They could have possibly realized the GT500 was pretty fast, again, the GT500's lap times on short tracks were impressive enough to keep the ZL1 at bay, it won half the races and ALL the drag races. No magazine can quite get that advertised 11.9@120 they advertised but, we will move on...

I remember a quote from Pistonheads.com when they asked Jamaal Hameedi about the GT500's Nurburgring time...

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/24719.htm
It's still a shock to hear Americans getting all serious about 'ring laptimes but even Hameedi is getting stuck in, not least after record breaking runs by the Viper and serious hot laps in the Camaro ZL1. So, how fast? "Deep in the sevens" is Hameedi's slightly cryptic reply, the 200mph-plus top speed meanwhile a triumph for American muscle versus aerodynamics. Yes it's crude - in parts - and yes it's lewd. But the Boss 302 proves modern day Mustangs are more than just straight-line heroes and if the GT500 makes it to our side of the pond we'll be first in the queue begging to have a go.
So, the ZL1 is admittedly not faster than what Ford has? That's one of the two main reasons the z28 was built. To lose some fat and to beat anything Ford could put on the street. Seems pretty clear to me...

However, the ZL1 was officially named in February '11, which means they changed the name before that (According to Al). The '13 GT500 wasn't running until June '11 so, they didn't even get beat yet. The Boss 302 wasn't always the faster of the 2012 GT500 and 2012 Boss comparison. The '12 GT500 beat it slightly at Willow but it reigned supreme for 2 solid years World wide in road racing... Wouldn't they want to send the z28 in to road racing to try and steal some glory? The Boss had a bad year this season and, it will be completely gone next year.

I feel we will get another fake @ss z28 in organized motorsport just like the fake @ss ZL1's in SCCA right now... Still getting beat by the Boss 302S...

What if the 2012 Nurburgring ZL1 was so finely tuned and developed on Nurburgring that it will be truly hard to beat without a long track setup. Everyone that knows vehicles knows, with 3.91 gears, the ZL1 will literally DESTROY an LS7 Camaro over 90mph. Literally, 3 to 5mph differences at points over 100mph, more severe at 120 (which is where the Camaro's usually stay).

The ZL1 had 5 phases of testing, the z28 gets Milford runs against the ZL1 and then has trouble keeping that gap when the track gets over 3 miles long. You can't let a 580hp car with 3.73's get on a track with you if you have 3.91's and less HP... Weight will affect the speed in the corners but lets face it... 300lbs (if that) isn't going to really affect you in a single lap. I think that extra 300lbs would scrub just as much speed in the corner as 305's all around. Again, the ZL1 had great weather... You can't use 2 lap times from two different years as a benchmark... Especially on a huge track where weather changes are critical.

Another dagger in the back is the possibility of the z28 being scaled back due to the Stingray and Team Corvette's Nurburgring time. Initially, It probably wasn't really thought about way back in late 2010/early 2011 when the z28 was being rebuilt after the ZL1 snatched it's body. Hard to foresee the Stingray and z28 running similar lap times (3 years in advance) to the ZL1 but both are set to be more expensive.

Lots of cluster f@*k going on here... I will be very amused if they can't beat the 2012 ZL1's Nurburgring time. I will laugh my f@ckin' @ss off...

Grand Am let slip that Multimatic will reverse engineer the 2015 Mustang during the 2014 season.

Take notes Chevy...

Still no z28 Nurburgring time, maybe next year...

7:37.47 for the z28 at Nurburgring...

That was a close one, I didn't think it could over come that 14mph difference over the ZL1. Some rain on the straight as well... There were some other parts of the track the ZL1 is just destroying the z28 in speed but, the z28 gains back it's speed in the turns.

Will the Stingray be faster? probably... Does that justify a $60k+ MSRP for a slightly better Nurburgring time and a non-sanctioned stripped street car?

Not recommended for drag racing kinda sucks, not legal for road racing kinda does too.
