I don't think the 1le is as fast as the magazines say it is. In one test it laid down a lap time only .4 seconds slower than a 458 Italia, and .8 seconds slower than a zr1. That doesn't seem very realistic to me.

http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/willow_springs_-_streets_of_willow.html

Hell that list has the 5.0 gt track pack faster than the boss ls and the corvette grand sport. Kinda silly? yes it is but that for some reason has been repeated in other test also (Boss vs GT track pack:shrug:

Official racing seems more legitimate and realistic. So because the 1le is not doing very well, official racing doesn't mean squat? What if the 1le was leading that pack of gt's? I'll bet official racing series would be more relevant to camaro fans if that were the case...(Nope not to me any way. The camaro teams in the Continental tires team wins quite a bit but not many ppl care.)

Also I haven't seen any real world videos of 1le camaros passing new mustangs on the street let alone the track. Ill be sure to post mine when i go to lime rock. there are a couple on the other site also.

The following videos were filmed in mexico

Yup ya got me I am a rookie just like 99% of Boss 302 (not 302S or 302R) owners out there. I will be doing track days for fun and to catch up to and "free pass" as many other cars including Boss 302's as i can.

Your whole "assault" is based on comparing two very different things real pro racing (psst............. no one cares) and track days, you know what people who have street legal cars that are bought from the dealership go do.

As far the Z/28 not being legal for any racing class yup you are right! Here's a soggy cookie. That Pill is not hard for me to swallow at all.

The point of the Z/28 escapes 95% of those on camaro 5 and you it appears as well sometimes. It will continue to do so i suspect until they are in the hands of the intended customers. Its true purpose is for the crowd who not only are track day "purist" but also own what are called "Carmahal's". Once they (GM) shows what the car can do I'm sure there will be more than a few parked at the Joilet Autobahn and other similar places around the country.

Those who will want the car for the name plate will find acquiring one to be very difficult if they are not paying cash. That is another point where i agree with some of your argument's among others. I anticipate and hoping for some enthusiast frustration with the fact the they can't have one. Hopefully enough stink is raised as you would suggest to where there will be some trickle down tech in the future models and some very well priced OEM upgrade parts. I got my eye's on the Multimatic suspension system.

Lastly, using pro racing IS a very good way to do some R&D. However what of the Z/28 feature components needs to be vetted? The LS7? NOPE! The current car using a restricted less powerful version of it is in first place in "real racing" remember? Multimatic suspension system? NOPE! everyone who is winning in "real racing" is using it so it must be that good right? CCB's? NOPE! Those work so well that they are "illegal" in "real racing". Besides why spend money on R&D only turn around and build a car that is made to be legal in racing series that restricts other cars so much that it allows inferior cars to be competitive. <-------------Reason no one cares about "Real Racing"

P.S. thank for the inspiration to write all this. not usually an active poster more of a lurker. but i like this game!!!:D
Not sure if you know this but, SCCA and NASA are pretty much street legal cars up to GT2. Few classes mix like T1 and GT but, for the most part, its an OEM chassis, suspension, engine and so on.There are about 8 street legal classes and about 8 pro. I'm aware you may be a great track day... um... competitor. That said, If you are waaaaaaaay more experienced are tracking a 1LE, that leads me to believe you are just out there murdering first timers and tuners. It all about how much fun you have, nothing else really matters.

HOWEVER, RACING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING A MANUFACTURER CAN GET INTO. The Corvette is ALWAYS the first to pioneer new tech for Chevy and then it trickles down. Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday will be a common slogan again since NASCAR, Grand Am/ALMS, SCCA and NASA have been aiming to do this for the last 5 years. Bring back stock cars to racing...

I am aware that the Continental Tire Camaro does OK... It is still light years behind the M3 and Boss. It wasn't until Chevy threatened to pull support and the Camaro (and Matt Bell) that Grand Am placed HUGE restrictions on the Boss and M3 so they could be competitive. After 3 races, the restrictions were lifted (Teams protested) and the Camaro fell back into the double digits. Besides, the Camaro has a waiver that allows the Camaro to be outsourced (Its in the rule book) and again, they are wavered to use the "Camaro GS.R" (Generic name for cars that do not meet NASCAR/OEM standards.). Only the M3, Boss 302 and WRX are allowed to use their production names because they are compliant with the standards. Challenger is another car that needs major changes to run GS.

Anyone who thinks racing doesn't count MUST be losing...

The Z28 isn't really good for anything... It isn't a street car, you can't compete with it, you have to wait for open track days and club events that race probably only 5th Gens. What amused me, is that everyone over there swore up and down, started talking about ENDURANCE racing, Trans Am, GT and Formula 1 shocks... convinced this thing was legal... Then, they would rather argue than READ THE CHEVY press release to see myself, and Chevy were in agreement. I posted only half of their statement and urged EVERYONE to double check my post (I thought somebody would have posted it before then).

Once a member posted that over there, everybody agreed that "Track Days" are the yard stick for performance and not Real Racing. Well, Real Racing is both pro and amateur and is the ULTIMATE test of the vehicle and driver. One lap time isn't good enough, you have to do it over, and over, and over, and over and over AND EVERY LAP IS DIFFERENT... You can't just take your favorite line all the time and that takes skill. I open tracked a Cavalier RS... It was quick... Until my first heat or 7. I was running within 0.2 of the leaders fastest lap BUT, on RACE DAY, I was 7th.... REAL RACING IS SO PHYSICALLY STRENUOUS I CAN NO LONGER RACE DUE TO SERVICE CONNECTED INJURIES. It's serious, so serious your car could be GONE in a split second...

Get out there with some GT's, I bet you they are not so protective of their $28,000 car than you are of your $40,000. That's what scares people and why I'm glad GT's are dirt cheap...

Another thing to think about, there is NOBODY checking your car at open tracks... You have NO idea what people are running unless they have class stickers or grease pen'd. In racing, you have to be inspected so there is NO ringers out there...

So... In all honesty, Track Days are where you start (Like Kindergarten) and you eventually move up. If you want to stay in Kindergarten and beat up on little kids, if that's what you like, that's what you should do. Most move on to a higher grade... Now, the Z28 was made for the SERIOUS RACER but only for Kindergarten content. That is embarrassing to me especially if I pay $70,000-$100,000 for the car.

I will admit, neither the Boss or Z28 (5th Gen in general) can handle Grand Am without cages. Both vehicles suspension geometry changes greatly at those speed and race weights. That's most likely the reason why Chevy just made the Z28 NON-COMPETITIVE... Because the 5th Gen is NON-COMPETITIVE...

The 5th Gen Camaro (1LE, ZL1, Z28) goes over in real racing like a fart in Idaho... It really stinks but nobody is really paying attention enough to care...

In the arena of performance cars, saying nobody cares about professional racing is akin to a pro ball team not showing up on game day and defaulting the win to the opponent.

Packers v. Cowboys and the 'Boys pull a no-show, for example.

Which appears to be just what GM is doing, according to Pill.

Why not just buy a used 1le for $35k ($27-28k for ss) and drop $15k ($13k for ls7 swap) into it?

Then it would be a custom car, and would thrill more people at car shows. Not to mention it would still handle well, have all the creature comforts, and still haul major ass. All while costing ~$30-40k less, and that's if the dealers don't mark the z28 up to the stratosphere since its limited production.

That car wouldn't be scary to drive to the store for fear of door dings or driving over water puddles.

It appears as if the Z28 hype is being over ruled by a majority of the C5 members.

It's a well know fact that indeed the Z28 is NOT a race car, legal for organized racing.

It's not a street car either...

It isn't the best Chevy since the old Z06 is being favored now AND, most can find a better, cheaper substitute for dedicated track days.

The Z28 isn't recommended for drag racing as well...

It's clearer now that Chevy can't compete with a Boss at the same level now that the 1LE results were disclosed and the Z28 eliminated by the engineers. Now... We wait for magazine's to tell us how much we need a car like this useless piece of sh!t.

What would they compare the z28 to in the magazine tests?

I'll bet it would be on the same performance level as a corvette grand sport, it certainly won't perform like the c7 stingray, right?

Whatever badass camaro model they engineer, won't be as fast as the top of the line corvette.

The Pill is a medically retired military veteran that I have become acquainted with off line over the last few years. He is smart guy and true enthusiast. His only real fault? He loves the wrong brand for most on Camaro5.

When a new production car is built, rarely does the manufacturer take into consideration what class it will run as determined by whatever sanctioning body. The new C7 delivers higher levels of performance than any other previous generation base model Vettes. When the higher performance versions are built sanctioning bodies will be scratching their heads to accommodate existing cars their members have built and the new cars. They will take a guess in year one and revise from there. If you want to race a Z/28 I am confident there will be classes to accommodate you.

BTW: If you think Washington is political you haven't been watching racing where they spend their OWN money.

The Z/28 will be what is is designed to be: an amazing version of the 5th Gen with the last of the normally aspirated fuel injected 427s under the hood. Anyone who doesn't understand what a 2014 Z/28 is won't be an owner. Z/28 owners are already lined up at Chevy stores across the country without knowing or caring what the MSRP will be. The next batch of owners are just like the first, but they have a maximum price in mind. Then there are the hopeful owners hoping the price will be less than many of us think it will be.

I could be wrong, but my guess is the number of Z/28s built will align closely with the number of owners, everyone of them thrilled.
Spotted this over at C5

Yeah, I know Pete. Pedder's and Steeda were two companies that checked on my injury progress and I never ordered anything from either company... Pete just kept checking, never asked about cars, or parts or anything but my progress.

Sometimes, when you see that quality in a person, it's in the business too.

Edit: He will be happy to know that I have learned to walk again without noticing I'm in pain. My shoulder may need surgery BUT, over the last year, I have restarted my strength and toning scheduled from 2007 pre-injury. I have dropped down below 9% body fat and sit at a perfect 21.5 BMI. I couldn't wait for the VA's PT program so I started last summer and I am currently sporting a Super Welterweight body... I officially entered the automotive industry on the 21st of June (at the bottom) 2013. Taking 3 months off for more physical training to build core strength to limit my injuries. I put a recent picture of me on Facebook... I don't recommend any men look at it...

YES!!! THANK YOU MOTOR TREND AND HOT ROD!!! The Pill ask and he receives. Watch at 5:15 when the question is turned from Motor Trend to Hot Rod about the Z28 and it being non-competitive and NOT a REAL race car. Al Porky Pig's... Ba-Dee, Ba-Dee, Ba-Dee that's all folks. You'll notice Al still is convinced that the Z28 IS a race car and is able to WIN in a RACE earlier in the video. Listen to it.. He still pushes... He want's a whole class created for the Z28... Let me guess... Z28's ONLY.

HIRE ME AL!!! DON'T SAY ANOTHER WORD!!! I will help you guys out of this crap.

Also notice the creepy music that kicks in when she ask him about this garbage... DUN, DUN DAAAAAA!!!

Here is my qoute from post 46 on this thread.

I am currently digging into Motor Trend's opinion on the subject. They are aware... Although, an accusation like that could lose their exclusive on the car. They may throw caution to the wind and may take some offense to such an airheaded marketing plan.
Thank You Motor Trend (even though you made Hot Rod ask the question)... BIG POINTS for YOU, Tell Randy I said hello and his "The Pill" T-Shirt is ready... Need a shipping address.

Trademarking "Intertain" and "Intertainment" as the world first "Intertainer"... (Internet Entertainer) :)

I think its hilarious that al o. said that the car would beat any car ford has on the street!

He is going to be very disappointed when bolt on 5.0s drag that z28 down the street/highway. If anything the only place the z28 would shine is on a track, but even then I doubt it will be that special. It might be faster than everything in magazineland but real world results will tell the true story.

I found it hilarious he would rather engineer a car, just to finally get a decisive magazine win, instead of putting one head to head with the Boss. Why go through the super pain in the ass trouble to get other manufacturers to agree to let you run a 7 liter V8 to their 4-5 liters. Have fun getting NASCAR to budge on anything Grand Am/ALMS or FIA/SCCA for that matter. Why not just make a Z28 that could possibly topple the Boss in one of the 20 classes the Mustang's are eligible for? It would have been easier to build a legal car than it will be to convince an organization to make a special class (even though road racing is in danger right now). It would also be difficult to convince a bunch of manufactureres to idly agree to let you run CC brakes, F1 type coilovers, 305's all around, massive weight reduction (I use that word lightly with the 5th Gen) and an 427 V8... Yeah... Ford will say no just to leave the Z28 classless...

Almost similar to their desire to create a special Z28 class, the engineers decided to create an new class of Pony car I guess. Can't take a GT, can't take a Boss, can't take a 500... It does get discouraging. But, we don't really care about real racing gentleman... we just want a magazine that we like to read...

GT vs. 1LE (see SCCA T2 results)
Boss 302 vs. No Show
GT500 vs. ZL1 (see drag strip and 1/2 of the magazine comparisons for track)
Z28 ($70,000 Not for street, not for strip, not for racing Squarmaro) Ford won't compete with idiocy... YOU F@CKIN' WIN THERE BUD!!!

How about a Boss 302 replacement that is legal, cheaper and just as fast? The original Z28 killer? GT350???? Those come out next year...

They won't come with special brakes that make you look stupid during inspection.. People actually intend on using the GT350 for racing. Kinda like the Corvette crowd. Imagine that...

I was reading through "thepill" thread on camaro5 and there is a lot of butthurt going on. Someone said something about the z28 "hammering" the corvette z06!
Do people really believe that a camaro that weighs 600-700 lbs more than the Z06 with the same engine/power will be faster?

I had another thought while working today... How many new z28 owners will do things like cam swap/exhaust/power adders? Will the significant cost, and collectible value deter owners from modding? I figured that wouldn't be the case if the z28 was a higher volume car that cost roughly half the price.

Thoughts?
