Greetings,

(One) I have a 2022 Mustang GT Premium. I would like to install a CAI on my Mustang and dump the stock unit with the Carbon Trap. I do not want to void my Mustangs warranty. Typically you could get a CIA from Ford Performance, and having a dealer install it would keep the warranty valid. I can not find a Ford Performance CIA for 2022 & 2023 Mustangs. Whats up with that? If I install a Roush CIA or any other aftermarket CIA would that void my Mustang Warranty? The Warranty is important to me. I do not give a crap about the CARB regulations.
Please advise.


(Two) Would burning a full tank of Non-Oxy 91 Octane gas hurt my car? I am storing my car for the Winter, and I thought not having the 10% ethanol in my gas tank all Winter long would help. All of our fuel in Minnesota has 10% ethanol in it. I would then drive my Mustang until the tank of Non-Oxy is gone in the Spring, and then go back to standard 92 Octane gas with 10% ethanol that I always, use moving forward. What Octane gas do you all use?

For question 1, you could always just buy the ford performance CAI kit for a 21 and get an aftermarket tune. You will get more from the aftermarket tune anyway. Ford doesn't offer the CAI for the 22 and 23's because it eliminates the carbon trap. Or just go completely aftermarket.

As for the warranty, the ford performance warranty is for 3/36 from the day of delivery not the day you bought the CAI kit. So if you have say 34K on your mustang now, you only have 2K miles until the warranty is kaput, also applies to delivery date, so if you say have a 21 that you bought in Nov of 20, you've got a month left. Also the warranty on the kit is void if you self install, it has to be installed at the dealer by an ASE certified tech.

Question 2, if you're that concerned about the 10% ethanol taking on water while storing, just throw in a bottle of STA-BIL fuel stabilizer on top of at least 3/4 tank of E10 92 octane and come back in the spring.

Thanks, I have 1000 miles on my car so I have 24 months on bumper to bumper and 48 months on engine drive train. So if I install a CIA that eliminates the Carbon Trap, which they will all do now. Would a Ford Dealer install it? and would it void my warranty? I am really disappointed on the whole Carbon Trap crap!

I think you misunderstood, Ford will not warranty the ford performance CAI on a 22 or 23. The Ford cai kit comes with a tune that you download from ford and since they don't offer the kit for a 22 or 23 you're out of luck on the ford tune, hence why I said to get an aftermarket tune if you decide to go that route. You're best option would be to just remove the carbon trap yourself, or look on craigslist or Facebook market place in your area for a take off CAI from an 18-21 GT, you can try eBay too. Removing the trap yourself is free tho, but if you don't feel comfortable doing that look for a used one from a 18-21

Don’t waste your time or money. Just take the carbon trap out and be done with it. The power increase comes from the tune, which Ford appears not to be doing anymore due to EPA regs. Mess with the tune and dealers will be more than happy to void your engine warranty

The dealer is not going to install a part that removes or bypasses any emission controls, heavy,heavy fines for doing that.
And removing that carbon filter would fall under that.
I would be very shocked if you could get a dealership to risk that fine.

Simply removing the carbon element, keeping the stock air filter box and dropping a K&N filter in there will improve throttle response. No re-tune needed.

The car will run just fine on non-ethanol gasoline. It's a good idea over the winter if you store the car. Adding Stabil is also a must for storage.

Stabil is a good idea. But don't just dump it in the tank and walk away. Be sure to drive, or at least run, the car long enough for the treated fuel to get completely through the system. Simply dumping it in the tank won't protect the pumps, filters or injectors.
