1969 Boss vs 1970 Boss

I spend way too much time on Bring a Trailer. Started as my attempt to find a cherry GT350 or a late 60s early 70s Mustang or Camaro. Lately I’m seeing that the late 60s early 70s cars are coming through way past my desire to spend. Which leads me to this question…

Two of the cars I’ve been tracking are ending auction today.
A 1969 Boss 429 that so far is bid up to $212,000
A 1970 Boss 302 that is in. The last 2-minutes (a half hour in BaT speak) at $71,250

Does the 429 really draw that much more or is the model year difference also a big deal?

Boss 429's are worth a lot more than Boss 302's. 1,359 Boss 429's built vs over 8,000 Boss 302's.

The B9's have been in the $150k-$200k+ range for a few years now, nothing new there. In fact some have breached the $300k range due to heredity and who has had it in the B9 circles. The lower the KK # and complete the car is to factory original with NOS parts, the higher the $$$ - and that's anywhere, not just on BAT.

For a total junk, needs resto B9, you're not going to be able to touch one under $80k-$100k...The VIN and if KK # is intact on the door is what brings the $$$, even if it's missing the engine.

I've tracked these as well - everywhere. Even had a lead on 1 out on West Coast 2-3 years ago... Confirmed correct front shock towers in engine bay via photos. Confirmed VIN via photos and even though it was missing KK #, was also able to come within the batch of Kk's with high possibility of nailing down its KK # with help of some B9 Pros. It needed resto, was original Blue over white, and was missing its original engine. I was actually able to locate the original block by many tedious searches and with help of some B9 folks.

If you're looking for a true B9, be prepared to spend big $$$ for one. Put it this way, just to piece together the engine alone with correct and NOS parts you have to have deep pockets. I'm talking upwards of $20k for THE correct engine restored as it came from the factory with correct VIN on block. That's not even including the correct smog equipment and other B9 specific parts.

The B302 does not and will never compare to a B9 in appraised value, cost of resto, Enthusiast following, and being THE B9 is one of the most sought after Mustangs of the late 60's-early 70's of all Classic Mustangs.

Boss 302 isn't the greatest. Those heads are really big for 302 ci. They are big even for 351 cubes.
