Hey guys pretty new to this forum but not mustang forums in general. I know that cai’s are pretty much worthless on these cars but how about an 18+ airbox and intake tube on a 17 gt? I tried searching but couldn’t find much info. I saw in one thread that the angle is slightly different and the maf housing is larger so that along with a tune would net some gains and the iat’s wont be through the roof like an open element intake. What do you guys think?

I'm back/forth on this same subject. Should I swap out my '16 box with an '18 + one. I have K&N filter and Mishimoto tube!

I recently did the 18+ manifold and air box. You will absolutely need a tune for the increased diameter maf housing. It does flow significantly more, but I would assume if you aren't revving higher with the additional airflow of the 18+ manifold you're not going to net much if anything. The lower box looks a lot better as it does not have the silencer box on top of the air inlet. All that being said, the airbox, manifold, LU47s and the Palm Beach Dyno E85 tune completely transformed my car. @gameovergt I see you are on E with an 18+ manifold. You should absolutely do the 18+ airbox. Are you revving out to 7800?

I am. VMP has the current tune shifting to 7800 which does scare me a little on the stock opg's. I don't do WOT often.

If you're going up that high in rpm, you'll feel the 18+ airbox. I'd say if you were still at stock rpm and manifold, the 15-17 box is sufficient. But with the 18+ mani and the additional rpm, that engine is consuming a lot more air.

That is definitely a great route to go to pick up a bit more power with the manifold. I don't think you will regret a stock 18 intake. However, PMAS and JLT also make great options that will pick up good power on that setup as well. If you have any questions or would like to go over any of those options. Hit me up. Right now I only have a canned tune (yes I know its worthless) and a bassani catback. I just ordered some exhaust parts for more rumble but I figured I would do some other mods too. I want to eventually get a vmp stage 1 blower kit so I’m skipping the 18+ manifold. I thought about long tubes, maybe I’ll buy a set soon. All my other mustangs are catless but I really don’t want to get rid of them on this one. Maybe get some catted exhaust connectors with my new exhaust and call it a day for now. What do you guys think?

@17gt07 I wouldn't bother with the 18+ airbox if your goal is to do a blower in the near future. If the revs aren't up and you're not flowing more air, the airbox and required tune would be a waste of money. I would absolutely go catless longtubes if the plan is blower. No sense in leaving HP on the table and corking up the exhaust if you're spending cash to make it. If you don't want the raspy sound that comes along with catless headers, a resonated x pipe can be added. But doing a blower to make power then restricting it with cats seems a bit silly. just my .02

I wouldn’t say near future but eventually nonetheless. As far as cats go that’s a mine field lol. Some say they flow well enough on newer vehicles that removing them nets next to nothing. I have no proof one way or another but it’s mostly for sound I don’t want anything too loud right now. And yeah it’s pretty much stock but ocassionally sees high rpms but I’d like to stay competitive with newer vehicles. Also I take back what I said about the 18+ manifold. They’re cheap enough to where I could justify getting one short term.

Well, with that being said... Absolutely do the entire 18+ induction system. Grab some lu47s and get a proper tune for E85. I can't say enough about Palm Beach Dyno, they are a great bunch. Tune is spot on and the trans tuning is night and day different. Enjoy the newfound rpms and HP. Sadly, mod for mod we'll never be as quick as an 18+ car due to the A10, some additional compression, and direct injection. The good news is that we're still quicker than the other current model "muscle cars".

Sounds like a plan! Still we aren’t too far behind but I have an mt82 car anyway so I’m at a little more of a disadvantage. But I’m still happy with it. I raced a 16 gt with an a6 and gapped it pretty good. Funny enough I work with the kid at my side job but didn’t know it until then lol. He said it was a buddy of his driving and he doesn’t know how to drive... sorry excuse but hey what do I know. And I once roll raced a newer camaro with a 6.2 and 6 speed. He gapped me pretty good lol. When I rolled up to him at a red light he told me it dyno’d at 510 hp. He didn’t speak much english but from what I could gather it had full exhaust, cammed and ran e85. I’m still proud of my 435 hp lol but I got gapped pretty good.
