170 degree thermometer with Lund Tune

So from what I am gathering some people are using a 180 degree thermostat with their Lund tune. Others are using the 170 degree thermostat with basically the same tune mod for mod. If you check the 170 degree thermostat ordering the tune it changes nothing. Am I understanding this correctly? The 170 degree thermostat just helps prevent detonation on Lund's standard tune.

Basically yes, you can either use the stock one or get the 170. Tune doesn't change, and you don't have to select either as an option when ordering the tune. My message as follows:

No tune adjustment needed Ryan. You are set! It is a wise move to do the 170 tstat. Tune is already setup to kick fans on earlier.

I am no expert by any stretch but from what I understand it adjusts shift points, timing, and air/fuel flow. Just installed a Lund tune today with a JLT CAI. The Corsa exhaust will get here in a week or so. So far with stock exhaust I am very happy with the drivability and performance of the tune. I would recommend it. I do feel a difference in low end torque/responsiveness. And at WOT I feel improvement too.

Thermostat being lower ,if the fans are also at lower temps settings you have a cooler running engine which is more HP BUT can lead to carbon build up and a few other issues in a daily driver situation .

That's what I have read here and on other forums. Just put a JLT CAI with a Lune tune on my GT. I have the 170 thermostat and will install soon.

you can run the tune either way, lund turns the fans on sooner, no matter thermostat or not

they can be turned on later if you prefer, however you want it, several threads on this

we have the 170s in stock.

as far as cold, the 170 is the perfect temp tstat to keep you where you want to be

I think when you start getting below that like the 160's, you could run into issues

Your car is NOT going to be at 170. More like 175-190 which we have learned to be BEST on these motors.

I don't think this is a real issue with the 170 stat. Stock is 177 deg so hardly a dif but it's enough with the tune to make a dif.
