17 gt base 6 speaker upgrade help please.

So I have a 17 gt base 6 speaker car and have blown a door speaker and am wanting to upgrade all speakers and add a powered sub or sub & amp combo in the trunk. These cars just have shitty sound system and I'm not an audio professional. I do race my car at the track in true street events so I dont want to add a bunch of weight with multiple subs. Just upgrade the 2 door and 2 rear deck speakers and add a sub for bass. So any suggestions will be greatly appreciated along with advice and do's and don'ts. Any speaker/amp suggestions appreciated as well.

I have always had high powered/quality systems in all my vehicles, but I didn't want to go crazy in my Mustang. I got these, they were plug and play and I'm pretty satisfied with them. Decent upgrade over stock. You can run whatever 6.5 speakers you want with an adapter plate for the speakers and adapter for the harness, but I chose to go this route for ease of install.

The fronts come with tweeters as well that install in the stock locations. Some people said they were too harsh for them but I personally liked them.

Pretty convenient using those speakers in the rear as the factory connector plugs in to them, and it also has the regular input spades on them which I could then wire directly to the LOC instead of cutting or splicing wires. I ran my power wire for my amp through a hole in the passenger side firewall, if you take off the front passenger wheel and fender liner there's a rubber grommet there with a factory harness running through it. On the side of it there's a nipple you can cut off and run a power wire for your amp through there, makes for a clean install if you want to add an amp for your sub. Don’t use the rear speakers as input for a LOC. They are bass limited. Better to fetch the signal from the fronts. Reprogram the ACM to low level output, remove the EQ (both with ForScan) and use a T-harness to break out the signal lines to the amplifier. Much better sound quality this way.

Consider not using any rear speakers and spending that money elsewhere on your system. All they do is draw the sound stage to the rear of the car, they do not provide any good bass either. Try setting your fader to full front only and have a listen.
