Now that the horsepower specs are out, how many people here are still cosidering the Focus RS? I would really love one personally.
For what this is worth:

The Focus RS just recently made it to my short list for MY17, along side of a BMW M2 & GT350. Oddly, the RS may end up being the most visceral of the pack.

The RS is going to have a robust engine, and any competent owner throwing hard earned money at it, will get about 380~400+ reliable pounds of torque out of that 3,300lbs machine.

Again, done right.

Stock?
A Focus RS will out handle and maneuver the Mustang GT, & out muscle it on the streets. Make no doubt about it. Because that is what it is meant to do. It is a German made Ford Performance Rally Sport. It is mean to be thrash about and give up big smiles.

IMO, I think the RS offers more smiles for less cost. Under 60mph, it can pounce and any 'Merican car.

If I bite on a RS?
I am going to lighten it up with CF wheels, driveshafts, & other bits. (Brakes?). Put miles on it and see what work needs to be done on the chassis to make in mine! (lulz). Then, make that 2.3L breeeeeeathe better, ensuring that it can breath deep & easy. There would be no need to go overboard on the tune, or bolt-ons, I'll just concede that on highway runs above 130mph, the RS starts to falter.

Cosmetically? I would have to remove the stock roof spoiler. That is a bit too much for me and ruins the lines of the car. The rear "fin" does not flow with the car & takes away from the car's stance. It needs an organic flowing roof tail, similar to the old Merkur.

I wonder... if they had a mini-version of the GT350R's "aero-spoiler?" design, designed/minimized/engineered to fit/replace RS's in Carbon fiber. Our double fin like the old Merkur.

I'd buy that.... just saying!

And... it's a freak'n hatch back U'all..

I m predicting 4.3 sec to 60 and 12.8 sec quarter mile if they can keep the weight between 3200 to 3300 lbs. Lunching that bad boy will be a piece of cake with awd.

I wonder what the prices are going to look like, it's going to be quite a bit more than the ST, maybe starting at $31000~

I would be amazed if it is under $35k. I think it will come in just under the Golf R which is $36k.

the RS is nice but not my cup of tea. Not safe enough for me.

Both cars are awesome.
Focus RS has a slightly better personality (AWD)
But the GT is drop dead gorgeous.
Focus Rs will always be a focus hatchback in the end.

Agreed. There's no way it'll be less than $35k. Even for a bare bones no option model. If it somehow finds its way under that price point, I'll be STRUGGLING to not trade in my GT. I have a soft spot for AWD turbo hatches.

If it were 400 HP or more from the factory I would at least drive one to see what it's like. Current specs I'm not that interested... or at least I'm more interested in the GT350.

I was waiting for this ride to come to the US. Dropped the $$$$$ on the Mustang instead. The RS is fast, fun & street deadly . Even without MODS, stock. Bang for the buck , pocket rocket with solid looks and very refined. A Blue Oval winner without doubt. Its hard to compare the two cars. In the end its preference and $$$$$$.:headbang::ford:
