Watching too many Ken Block videos with "drift mode" in use?...lol.Care to elaborate?
Everything in here. I'd leave mine stock, but the comments about the RS being an absolute monster around a tight course and under 60mph are going to be 100% spot on.For what this is worth:
The Focus RS just recently made it to my short list for MY17, along side of a BMW M2 & GT350. Oddly, the RS may end up being the most visceral of the pack.
The RS is going to have a robust engine, and any competent owner throwing hard earned money at it, will get about 380~400+ reliable pounds of torque out of that 3,300lbs machine.
Again, done right.
Stock?
A Focus RS will out handle and maneuver the Mustang GT, & out muscle it on the streets. Make no doubt about it. Because that is what it is meant to do. It is a German made Ford Performance Rally Sport. It is mean to be thrash about and give up big smiles.
IMO, I think the RS offers more smiles for less cost. Under 60mph, it can pounce and any 'Merican car.
If I bite on a RS?
I am going to lighten it up with CF wheels, driveshafts, & other bits. (Brakes?). Put miles on it and see what work needs to be done on the chassis to make in mine! (lulz). Then, make that 2.3L breeeeeeathe better, ensuring that it can breath deep & easy. There would be no need to go overboard on the tune, or bolt-ons, I'll just concede that on highway runs above 130mph, the RS starts to falter.
Cosmetically? I would have to remove the stock roof spoiler. That is a bit too much for me and ruins the lines of the car. The rear "fin" does not flow with the car & takes away from the car's stance. It needs an organic flowing roof tail, similar to the old Merkur.
I wonder... if they had a mini-version of the GT350R's "aero-spoiler?" design, designed/minimized/engineered to fit/replace RS's in Carbon fiber. Our double fin like the old Merkur.
I'd buy that.... just saying!
And... it's a freak'n hatch back U'all..
Lol. You always want what you can't have! Then, all of a sudden, you CAN have it. That's where the excitement comes from, I think. It's interesting reading what you guys are posting. Coming off of owning a Focus RS for the past 11 years, personally all I could think was 'YAAY MUSTANG' when they announced Mustangs would be available in Europe. I guess the grass truly is always greener on the other side.
Only to the ignorant. Yeah, when I watch WRC I think to myself what ricers these cars are, LOL...No matter what you do it, the RS will always look like a RICER.
Not gonna happen. Ecoboost V8 maybeHistorically, I've been all about rally cars and hatchbacks, so admittedly this is right up my alley (I do after all drive a Focus RS now). Still though, for me, it ended up being a two car short list - the GT PP or the RS. In the end the GT PP won because I have a feeling that the next RS will be even more high-tech and amazing, and that the next GT will have a twin turbo V6 and shift paddles - sorry guys, but I do feel that way.
In the end, I decided, the S550 might well be the last bastion of the simply engineered, front-engine, rear-drive, manual shift driver's car. So I got one.
But I'll always look over to anyone in an RS and long wistfully for that whooshing turbo, the all wheel drive and that lightnessThen of course I'll step on the gas, hear the engine and forget all about all that.
You'd think so, but look at the GT and the Raptor... Ford's fastest, toughest pickup truck and its flagship supercar both have V6's... and auto boxes. You never know what happens in one generation's time. I have a feeling the V8 is on its last legs, sadly. And the manual transmission. Not gonna happen. Ecoboost V8 maybe![]()
In a generation everything will be electric. No point in a twin-turbo setup when electric is going to outperform, and eventually be cheaper than, any ICE engine. You'd think so, but look at the GT and the Raptor...
