Not sure if you guys understand what this new RS is, but epic fail on a good many posts here. This is nothing like the ST.

Focus RS:
1) handling characteristic that will go unmatched in the Ford world. Unique AWD system developed for racing.

2) the 0~ 62mph spec that will hover around 4.4s. (stock)

3) is the fact, the RS only comes in a manual, & a 5-door hatch.

It WILL have at least 360ft-lbs of constant TQ just above 1,400rpms.. I am sure there are lightweight CF components, just like the 350R has, etc. So expect even with AWD system, the 80lbs gain? over the ST, is well worth it. Given the drift videos and ability to toss the rear out.

70% rear bias is enough to make long trips phun.

Given the upscale interior, I expect the Focus RS to be $42k modestly optioned.

Agreed. It will be a torque monster.

Some people are comparing this car with the sti, Evo etc. However, I think it'll run circles around all those platforms. This is meant to compete with the golf r, sure. How many camaro, mustang, challenger and the like owners be jumping ship? It's not only competing with the awd turbo cars.

Can't wait until everything is finalized so we can TRULY compare.

With the news of this "new" ecoboost 2.3L for the RS, do we think that this will make it into the Mustang? Just my thought of MY 2017:
Three Mustang models
1. 2.3L Ecoboost engine w/ the Premium option now the standard.
2. 2.3L Ecoboost AWD (compete with the ATS, and who knows, new Camaro)
3. 5.0/5.2L Coyote GT Base and Premium
V6 Engine gets discontinued
I am probably thinking way too much into it, but it just got me thinking out loud. Thoughts? Number 2 is probably the long shot.

The Focus RS will be able to split front to rear, and also side to side in the rear, allowing the outside rear tire to push the car through a turn which is a very effective handling approach. From my knowledge, it's basically what NASCAR teams set their car up to do, and they handle pretty well for such a large and heavy race car.

If the rear suspension shares the design from the new Fusion and Mustang, it should also be an advantage, it's a really sophisticated design that uses different measures to approach the different loading situations the car will be put under throughout acceleration, braking and cornering.

Thanks! Much better now. Looks like the trash was put out to the curb!

I am very excited to see this car and get more info on all the details. Going to be a big seller for sure.

Done. Back on topic. If you want to compare the RS to the STi, take it to the General Automotive subforum. If you want to compare the STi with the Mustang, go here or here.

Yeah I'm excited as well. I've got friends in the engine department that say they're really excited about the RS variant of the 2.3. My only concern is the pricing. If it's anything reasonable, I'm going to trade in my ST in a heartbeat.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what FR actually did to the 2.3 in the RS.

A lot suggested here: [ame]

Makes you wonder what FR Engineers were up to, when they reworked the 2.3 for the RS. Ford already said it has much greater breathing room & increased torque. Better this & that but as of yet no real information of why Ford Racing (FR) attacked those metrics.

But this 2.3 coupled with a unique AWD system... and you have a little monster. This thing could have 100ft-lbs of tq per wheel, in a 3,500lbs car. Acceleration must be sickening. FR already mentioned new larger intake, exhaust, along with bigger turbo.

So even though being extremely quick, I think the RS will also have some longer legs to pull at higher speeds too. We shall see.

I am extremely intrigued in the RS, and hope Ford Racing drops a special version of the RS. Something with CF bits (CF wing, intake, AWD driveshafts, etc).

I am as much in love with the possibilities of this RS, as I am with the M2, & GT350..!

I just pray that the powerband isn't like the 2.3L Ecoboost in the Mustang. From the press release they mentioned a larger twin scroll turbo with better breathing capabilities. Supposedly the car has a 6800rpm fuel cutoff I just hopes it pulls to that 6800rpm cutoff.

I always wanted an RS...

The 2.3EB Mustang was over a liter too small. How long till the 3.5EB debuts? I suppose if the 2.3EB Mustang is the future base engine, OK, but there will probably be need for something a bit hotter between it and the GT. I suppose they could offer the RS tuned 2.3EB in the Mustang as part of a Performance Pack in the next year or so?

I be frankly surprised if that ever happened. The RS motor is more analogous to the Boss 302 motor. Perhaps a next generation ST or EB mustang may see a trickle down effect, but I would be surprised if it was cost effective to directly drop the RS motor into the mustang.

As for the 3.5, consider that the next gen Raptor and GT both have the next gen 3.5 EB. I think that's proof the engine is vastly superior to the current 5.0 - but also more expensive, and would likely go in the GT500 replacement.

Been a little bit since I posted in my own thread but just want to thank everyone for all the comments (now that all the Subaru talk is gone). I have made up my mind, going with the RS. I will stick it out with the lame Cruze I have for now so I can have a good $8k or so to put down once the RS is available.

I'm not overly worried about price because I talked to someone inside Ford development in Dearborn and he said they will be priced similarly to the Golf R. I really don't see how the RS will be over 40k as some are predicting nor do I see it having many levels of trim/options. This will be a very well packaged car from the start and I can't wait! I'll be shocked if it's under $36k but we'll see.

From how it sounds as of now I think this is the car I've been waiting for so price is almost irrelevant since I don't want anything other than a GT350, and that's not realistic right now financially. It'll be a long summer, seeing all the beautiful GTs on the road but I am sure I'll be happy with my decision.

As great as I think the Mustang is, I am really liking how rare the RS will be. Once spring hits there will be so many Mustangs on the road (with good reason) so a big part of me wants to be different. Hell, I see no less than 10 a day now. Granted, I'm a driver so I see thousands of cars a day but still. I won't see many RS on the road and that I like.

At 33, I'm still young enough to get that GT350 one day but for now I feel Ford has given me something to be happy about in the RS. Actually Ford has been the only one making anything I'd buy so keep it up :) Again, thanks to all the contributions to my thread. Great bunch of guys (and girls) on this forum and I'll hang around while I'm awaiting my RS.

^ Good luck. Hopefully they aren't too limited to scoop up and there aren't a bunch of silly dealer mark-ups.

They will be limited but this will also be a car for a niche market so I doubt everyone who owns an ST will be trading up for an RS. And due to the price I feel that a lot of potential buyers will not be able to swing it. A large majority of ST owners are pretty young so it'll be a stretch for many to afford one.

I am pretty friendly with my local dealership so I don't think I'll be subject to dealer markup. I actually worked there years ago and have purchased many cars from them so I will be speaking to the owner very soon.
