Good work on the experimentation! What you did is essentially create a resonator, so I'm not surprised you got some effect. What I will say is that changing tip diameter by itself is unlikely to have any significant effect (or even measurable one), as the length of the tip compared to the length of the wave is very small. Yes, having a full axleback section from say, the differential to the muffler being 3" vs 2.5" can make a difference in sound level and tone, but that's because it's a long enough section.

Agree on sort of making bbk tip similar to extra resonator/muffler. The effect was very prominent even though I was able to apply it to one exhaust pipe only. This is why I'll probably stay with bbk plus whatever inserts I will comeup with.... 2.5 or or 3" plus sound deadening wrap if I can get it.

That's unfortunate for the stock exhaust part of the experiment as I will probably not spend my time on it in the nearest future. But I still think that with the tip long enough and appropriate material something can be achieved. I'll keep stock mufflers just in case I have free time for experiments later on.
