Someone should know the answer. It’s got some weight to it. Always figured it was steel but assuming it’s aluminum

Again, aluminum. They've been aluminum since 2005 and the S197's.

The hood has been aluminum since at least 2010 and probably since the beginning of the S197 in 2005. Major issues with corrosion on the leading edge of the hood because of this.

Most American made vehicles have aluminum hoods now. Have had for years! Easy to check with a small magnet !

My WRX and M3 had aluminum hoods and they never corroded. It's not the metal that's the issue. You'd think it'd be lighter being aluminum, the M3 hood is 24.6lbs. and the WRX is 14.6lbs. Why is this hood 36lbs?

I thought the same thing @ 36lbs... what did they inject lead into the hood? lol

The hood is comprised of 2 dissimilar metals:

1) Hood skin is aluminum.

2) Hood skeleton or the bracing to which the skin is attached should be steel.

To avoid or prevent the hood corrosion issues (plaguing the Mustang since 2005), the hood skin should be fiberglass, carbon fiber or similar material and glued to the skeleton. No more corrosion.

The 94-98 hoods were fiberglass attached to the skeleton bracing and I think the same was true for 99-04 (someone correct is wrong).

The Mustang hood is heavy for two reasons.

1. It's huge.

2. Ford.

Youre correct atleast for the Mach1 and I assume other cars as well. I was suprised how much heavier the new hood is than my Mach1, I know part of that is that the Mach1 has a large hole in it, but I was like... damn. Makes me think about getting a CF hood and having it painted.
