Saw a few guys from here up at the dragon today. We were running pretty hard up there today. Tag yourself if you saw my car.

There was no event yesterday. I no longer go during events. We do a scout run, and we found a sheriff who was a local and is forgiving. We kept him in mind and passing enthusiasts will flash you and let you know. We found out he was sitting at one of the photograph corners. Knowing the road, we kept that in mind. When we got to the overlook, we saw him pass us towards back of the dragon. We waited a few minutes and then headed that way to see if he was hanging around. He was gone, so it was a full throttle run back to the beginning. Generally there are never cops out there during normal times. It's sort of like playing chess. Find out where he's going to be first and then work around it.

I had my GoPro with me but didn't feel like setting it up. Only did 2 full runs and headed back on my 3 1/2 hour drive down. So all I have is my nephew recording from his iPhone 10.

That Miata driver is not very good and it looks like you made him piss his pants. Glad he didn't wreck.

How do you figure? He's a good friend of mine and is very fast. Both karting and driving.

Watch your Vid, he is not very smooth in the curves and ran off the pavement several times.

I could be wrong but it looked like he was spooked by you being so close.

Shrug.

He isn't spooked, that was a low speed run. The golden rule is to stay in your lane to not endanger other drivers. But the right side of the road is fair game. I'm not sure how much time you've spent chasing the racing line but what you're seeing is us using all of the available road to get as much grip as possible. Hence staying on the outside and then sweeping in and hitting the apex. That's the fastest line through that section. There are even some sections that allow you to dip your tires off of the pavement and cause sort of a "train rail" effect. I trust driving with this person more than anyone else I've driven with in the last 10 years.

I like to keep my tires on the pavement.

In my youth I had an SCCA competition license.

Many people with racing licenses come to drive this road and can't keep up with the group. Other drivers have never step foot on a track and you usually never see their tail lights after a few hairpins. A lot of times, they don't relate.

I've run the dragon and many roads like it on my motorcycle and in many different cars. Most with light to zero traffic. The Dragon is a tourist road.

I saw jerky cornering and gave my opinion. We all know what opinions are like.

Damn that looks fun. I‘ve never been to the dragon. Had planned to go earlier this year going to Ponies In The Smokies but that got canceled. Hopefully PITS is on for next year. I can already hear my wife complaining about car sickness. :giggle:

The wife and I went this past spring. It's a lot of fun. I didn't drive it terribly hard as it was my first time there but definitely had a good time.

I did the dragon twice in a row on sport bikes; it was a lot of fun, since there was hardly any traffic. And no cops either. But I have to say I wouldn't enjoy that road on my Bullitt anywhere near as on the bikes. These heavy cars are not really meant for tight twisties IMO... but I'd do it given the chance, of course :).

Finally, I've never driven a Miata, but the one on the video above was going a lot faster than I thought possible on one of those cockroaches. Ha ha. I suspect it has at least suspension mods, since it had hardly any body roll. The engine is also anemic, so I also suspect engine mods, but maybe not. And yes, the guy was driving well. Not an expert, but pretty good IMO.
