With all the threads on this subject (that I've read) I hate to start a new one, but from reading those threads I don't think I should be experiencing the "Smoking at Idle / SMOKE SHOW".

I've had my car 2 weeks and it was built 4/20/2016 ... base model non-PP Manual.

First MOD I did was put on a UPR Dual Valve Catch Can when car had less than 30 miles on it (now has around 800 MI) ... only other mod is a Green Filter in stock air box.

UPR Checks are correctly oriented per their diagram (checked more than once).

Noticed white smoke as I was backing in the garage last week and then the burning oil smell in the garage an hour or so later.

Sat in a driveway last night with car idling waiting for someone and could smell it after a few minutes and smelled it again this morning sitting at a stop light.

Thought between it being a late 2016 build (revised PVC for sure), the UPR DVCC, and everything else bone stock I should be one of the last ones to see or smell the SMOKE SHOW !!

Should I be concerned or is the solution to add the UPR Clean Side Catch Can ??

Kinda thought the CSCC was more for further modded cars with DP, etc.

White smoke is not a problem, water burning off when cold.

Blue smoke is what you need to focus on, that is oil burning.

I would check CC and see if any amount is showing in there, just so you get idea of how much over time it fills.

It would not smell like burning oil if it was just "water burning off" ... maybe it is blue smoke, have not studied it; just saw smoke as I was backing in the garage (something I've never seen on a newer car), and made me wonder.

Sure enough, there was a burning oil smell in the garage shortly after, something I've never smelled even when pulling my kid's 2002 150k mile Saturn in the garage that DOES use a 1/2 to 1 Qt. between 3k changes !!

I'll check the can when I'm back home tomorrow ... I'll be at around 1k miles then.

A ticking time bomb ;)
Honestly, I'm indifferent about my CSCC it hasn't caught any oil in like 5k miles. I don't even know if its worth it.

I see you are really low mileage while breaking in the engine my 2 other friends and I, all with EB, did have a foul oil/ burning like smell for about 3k miles or so that could be what you're experiencing it does go away after 3-5k miles. One of my friends and I had a little bit of white smoke during our break in period but subsided thereafter and the last friend well he was the bad apple and had smoke that would trail the car especially after installing an resonator delete and AB. I don't think you should worry unless it gets significantly worse and continues past 5k miles.

I too noticed a burning smell on my new '16 that went away after about 4k miles.

OK ... I'm only at 800 miles I'll keep an eye on it until I'm beyond 5k and if it is still there then, I might have something to be concerned with !!

Thanks everyone for your replies so far

Mine is a 2014 build modded on E30 and has never smoked. I think a lot of luck is involved as well.

Hmmm....

no smoke here (yet!). Coming up on 3 mos. of ownership and 4,000 miles of daily driving...think our cars were built around the same time. I don't have a catch can...kind of took UPRSteve's advice to heart and decided against it (unless I'm showing signs of oil going into the intake). If my valves do get coked, I get a free new cylinder head from Ford anyways (as long as I don't mod anything!).

EDIT: actually, it was Livernois Motorsports, in this thread (why wouldn't UPR want me to buy one of their Catch Cans):

All smoke on a brand new car is a problem, he needs to bring it to a dealer.

I disagree, every car in last 30+ yrs smokes white when first started.

OP didn't really say if car was warmed up or not when smoking, if warm and smokes, yeh that is something to look into.

I just see so many people post about cold starts (not so much in this forum).

Mine does this as well, 1/2015 build, original non-revised pcv box with the barcode on it. Smokes a lil bit of white smoke on a cold start up, a bit more on really cold mornings outside. Nearing 30,000 miles nothing blowing up...yet.

I'm not paying any attention to start up smoke, as I'm driving off right away and not looking for it.

I've only seen the smoke once when I was backing in the garage looking over my shoulder after a long drive.

Oil burning I've smelled numeous times after driving a while sitting stopped at a light or elsewhere with engine running. Sitting at a light you always assume it is someone else, but I've smelled it sitting all alone in a driveway and in my garage shortly after shutting it off after backing it in tight against the passenger side. This takes longer ... I.E. more idling ... than my '11 did as it is wider out back and more difficult to see how close I really am to the wall.

Ok, Then it that case I would bring it in for checkup.

The oil smell might go away after engine breaks in, maybe if your blow by is a lot now.
What you could see is if vacuum amount affects the smoking, but either way bring it in so you got record of it for future issues if they come up.
