I have installed a AEM dry drop in filter on my '16 V6.
I was looking at the grill and noticed the spot in front of the airbox intake is blocked.
Has anyone drilled the stock grill to increase the airflow to the stock airbox?
Any advice or help is appreciated.

I've done it to my GT, I don't know how easy it would be with the v6 grill. But, I took a sharp crafting razor and traced along the honeycomb. once I had a nice gouge along the outer edge of the honeycomb I took a Philips and a hammer and punched it out. Looks clean, my IAT's drop considerably faster now

I read somewhere or watched a video where it stated the holes in the grille in front of the air intake are sized for the engine installed. Less holes increase airspeed to some extent.

I'd love to see that in print from Ford.

Did the tabs drop out under the car or did you have to go in and get them?

They fell into that little air dam, plastic cover at the bottom of the car. Just unscrew and grab em.

I put a GT grill in mine, cut out honey comb and put mesh in, tons of airflow now. I have a open filter and I have water spots on my shock towers from rain flying though the grill and into the engine bay where the filter is. even without a heat shield my IAT's never get about 13-14 deg more than ambient. if im parked or sitting in traffic they go up a little but cools down pretty quick. this is about the same as the factory air box, it would normally be 12-14 above ambient. theres no reason you couldn't open up holes in the stock v6 grill....id use a large drill bit to start and they finish off with a dremel. I don't image it would take long either.

I took a 1/2" drill bit started on the left side then the right side and worked to the middle all the ones blocking the air intake, then took a course hand file and files top and bottom ruff edges smooth took about and hour.
