One thing about the S550 that just didn't sit well with me were the chrome badges, especially the bland 'GT' emblem on the back. The grille horse and 5.0 badges were remedied easily enough with the UPR offerings. I had replaced the taillight panel with the blank Ford Racing unit and, while loving the clean look, I began to think about something slightly retro to add to it but with a more contemporary look.

I dug through a box of old castoff trim parts from vehicles past, and there it was as if it were fate: a tailgate badge from a 1971 Ranchero GT. The general emblem layout was used on '66-'69 Mustang GTs (as well as other Fords of the period), so why not.....

I sandblasted what was left of the old chrome and paint, sprayed it gloss black to match my UPR stuff, and stuck it on with trim tape.

Done. I like it.

Great idea Strokerswild,

This is definitely unique and it looks great! It's always good to stand out from the crowd.

Keep it up and let me know if you ever need anything!

Love it! I'd love to have a super sized '66 GT fender badge to put on the back of mine. The red badge with the black panel and the DIB car would pop.

Like this? The guy who did my hitch cover should be able to machine a custom emblem, I did mine based on the fender badge.

Its actually really cheap consider its a one off custom job. He only charges 49$ for a single color.

you can come up with your own design, the guy can do anything. It may looks a little flat from the picture, but its actually 3D and painted/cleared.

If you want my design just sent him that picture he should know.

its just the standard plate he use is fairly thick, you may need ask him to machine it down.

That hitch plug is pretty sweet. Cheap too.

As for mine, I knew I was keeping that old emblem around for a reason! The paint and chrome were terrible on it, plus it was missing both mounting pins. Good thing I just can't throw stuff like that away! :)
