Hi all,

Does anyone know how long a railcar can be placed in hold status for?(Flat Rock Imparticular) My car has been there for 14 days. It was built on 2/11, production completed on 2/12. Didn't hit transit til 2/27 and hasn't moved since.

-I've been following this site since May. Thanks for all the knowledge.

Is it a "ramp"? (AKA really big parking lot at Flat Rock.)

They can be there for a while... cars that get tagged for QC issues are "parked" until they can be addressed. RAMP 51 was the notorious location in Flat Rock where cars sat in 2010 until they could get addressed.

Could it have gotten caught up in the big QC hold?

CorvetteDreamin,
It don't think its a ramp because I actually have a rail car/ETTX number. I hope not

Stang Nut,
I wasn't part of the hold. It was built on the Wednesday 2/11 and completed on the Thursday. Rachel and my dealer confirmed this.

Thanks

I checked another user's sig and his car was awaiting shipment for ONE month. So I guess it can happen. But NOT TO ME, DAMNIT! :) My guess is they wait until a railcar (or cars) has enough units to justify hooking up to a train to East Bejesus.

It wasn't warp drive or the anti-gravity mode.. That crap still doesn't work.

If it's on a car, it's in the hands of the rail road and there's no telling why or how long it will wait. Could be a mechanical problem with the car and could be a weather or railway issue. What's the exact wording? That will tell you if ford is holding it. There's a thread here somewhere with wording and what it means. If wording translates to ford paying demurrage, then that's the only way that ford is holding it. Other than that, railroad owns it.

You know? I hear tell that area 51 has had some other items on hold for the last 60 years or so. And still not released. I sure hope those Mustangs make it sooner than that.

I have read Mustangcheif's definitions of the rail codes. He says holds usually last less than 24hrs. Here's the exact wording "placed in hold status Flat Rock Michigan on CN(not sure what cn is short for) Febuary 27th at 11:35pm. No eta available.

Nick/Ford service says it won't ship until the train is full. Do they just radomly fill the train cars. I know there are rail cars heading this way just not mine. You'd think Ford would want my $41k+, it is a Retail/special order. I guess it is peanuts to them.

Once it is in shipping Ford isn't the one moving it. Shipping is done by contractors. They get paid per car they move, they don't care if it's a special order or $200k.

CN is Canadian national. And yep, ford can't do anything about it. It's in the railroads hands.

How long do you guys think it can last? Could it be months? Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks for the responses.

No way to even begin to know. I wouldn't expect months. Car transporting business is hot right now and a sitting car is costing them money. So not likely. Unless something is mechanically wrong with it. Generally, that's not a big deal. But, if it's something that's hard to fix or hard to replace without proper gear, then you never know. Likely not though.

Here's my big however. The railroad is a monopoly. Only that carrier can work on that track. We've had problems with them before. We wanted them to wear the right PPE in our plant. They quit coming. Locked up out shipping, and therefore our production, for weeks. Until we relented. They they only people allowed on our site without the normally required PPE. The railroad works on their own rules. And we (their customers and people like you waiting on them) just have to get used to it and wait.

UPDATE: On Monday my salesman informed me that the GM checked with the regional salesman and according to him my car was on the move. As of Wednesday it was at the drop off 35 miles away from my dealership. I talked with my salesman this am and my car hasn't showed up yet.

Here's that status from other sources as of today.

CSX-railcar is still in hold status.
Cotus-in transit(no Ed since 3/16)
Ford Service-awaiting shipping
Salesman's tracker-on rail car at Flat Rock

My salesman seemed confident in the regional sales rep. I'm guessing he has access to most accurate and update information available. Can anyone confirm this?
