Hey guys I wanted to give guys an overall review of my first trackday in my new Mustang.

Car specs:
2015 Base Ecoboost with Performance Package and Recaro seats

Modifications:
Cobb Stage One tune
Whiteline transmission insert
Schroth 4 point harness
Amsoil Signature 5w-30 at 900 miles

Track:
Buttonwillow Raceway
First sessions the track was damp and the last two session it began to warm up.

Driving impressions:
The first session was great, it was my first time at this track with a rwd car so I took it easy. The car is very balanced for the most part but will let you power oversteer if you wish. I left traction control on all day and I was truly impressed with how non intrusive it was. It would let the car get squirelly but would bring back into line before I could get sideways.

At the limit the the car would show slight understeer under hard cornering. I'll expand on this in the next few section.

Power:
The Cobb tune is fantastic, for being off the shelf I can't complain but I am looking forward to have it touched it up as I add a few more parts.

Unfortunately as soon as it got up to about 75 degrees outside the intercooler began to heat soak instantly. I could easily say that on some sections I lost about half the power and could feel timing being pulled. Great job to Cobb for keep it safe.

I am running 91 here in California so I did add about 3 gallons of 100 octane to prevent any knock.

Transmission:
Shifting was nice throughout the day with no grinds or anything out of the ordinary. I was in primarily 3rd and 4th gear the whole time except for the main straight where I could grab 5th.

Tires:
The Pirellis did very well for being a street tire. They were audible and made it clear when they were going to break loose.

Steering:
I kept the steering in sport mode the entire time. The only gripe I have is that I feel like I'm not getting too much feedback, like you would with a hydraulic system.

Brakes:
The 4 piston brake system is good but not perfect. I did begin to feel some fade but with stock fluid and pads I am not surprised.

Coolant temperatures:
Although I don't know how much bigger the PP radiator is over the regular one it seems to work great. Temps were good all day without a hint of overheating.

Oil temperatures:
I was really disappointed that the performance pack for the EB did not come with an oil cooler. With the exhaust manifold in the head it is critical to have oil and coolant temps in check.

I saw oil Temps touch the 248F mark and got concerned. I called it a day after this because I am not comfortable with temps that high.

Suspension:
The car is pretty well balanced but I think the front suspension needs some work. Stiffer springs and camber would help quite a bit. Better dampening up front would do wonders as well.

Take aways...
I am overall very happy with the car and am looking forward to see what this car can do.

As of now I have another trackday scheduled for March 22nd.

Before I plan to get these modifications done.
1. Intercooler
2. Oil cooler, I will be doing a custom install so I will get some pictures of that.
3. Carbotech XP12 pads or Ferodo Ds2500 pads if they are available.
4. Amsoil DOT4 racing brake fluid, I've used many fluids with great success but want to try this out before I recommend it.
5. Stainless steel brake lines
6. Two piece rotors, if available.

A few other items I have that I would like to install if time permits are:
MGW Shifter
Driveshaft Shop carbon fiber driveshaft
Wheels, as soon as I know they fit I will post pics.
Hankook RS3 tires
Lowering springs, not sure which yet.

In the next two weeks I will have a separate post with oil analysis from this trackday as well as the oem fill oil.

Stay tuned!

I apologize for the crappy video, its probably time to upgrade.

Thank you for that review. That was EXACTLY what I bought my EB for, and you've answered a whole boat-load of my questions!

Glad I could help! This platform has so much potential and after pushing it I'm sold on the car!

Great to see someone pushing it on track and not just drag racing.

Now i'm leaning towards the turbo..that heat soak concerns me though.

Look forward to following the progress and that video!

Thank you!

I am certain that with better brake pads and intercooler I could shave off a good amount of time. The stock intercooler is just way undersized.

I see your going for RS3's...what is your reasoning/experience with those? I actual love the way RS3's look when mounted. Up there with PSP and BFgoodrich.

BTW i checked out your Evo build...some wild and interesting stuff. I've built a few backyard builds but you take it to the next level. Almost like a small race team. lol

thanks

Yeah I overdid my Evo haha, this is my second chance to try and take it easy.

As for tires RS3s are proven and are simply my favorite tire to track on. I've used Dunlop star specs the old ones and new ones along with a handful of slicks.

For dry tracking you can't beat RS3s, great grip, don't get greasy and last for a decent amount of time.

If my wheel setup works out how I want I'll be able to run 285 front and 305 rear. Later on I may get a dedicated track setup with 18x10 all around running 285s.

We shall see!

How were you measuring oil temps?
I had my Cobb accessport running and kept an eye on oil temp, coolant temp, oil pressure, intake charge temp, intake temp and AFRs.

When I saw oil temps hit 245 the needle on the center display almost touched the yellow area of the gauge.

Pretty appropriate that my Amsoil renewal notice should come in while I'm reading this thread. :)
