My son has a '15 EB Premium (in DIB) that he absolutely loves, and the lease is ending beginning of April. He spec'ed out an '18 with Auto and Pony Package, sticker price $34,090. With X-Plan pricing and no $ down, got a quote of $433/mo. for 36 mos., 10,500 mi.
Walked in to the Dodge dealer next door and priced out an '18 SXT Plus V-6 very comparably equipped and got a lease quote (same terms) of $323.
That is a huge difference and as much as he (and I) prefer the Mustang, he's ready to order the Challenger. Thoughts? Thanks!

The Challenger will not feel like an EB. They're not bad and are actually pretty comfortable cars, but they lack...oomph. My opinion stick with the Mustang, I think it's got the challenger on looks, performance, and handling. Though the SXT will have the option of AWD if that matters. Plus I think you get more for your money out of the EB anyways since that will be the more fuel efficient car, while also being the faster of the two.

Also take this as a slightly biased opinion, given that I'm more of a Mustang fan, and independently a bigger fan of a turbo-4 than a V6.

Nothing wrong with the Challenger. Being in NY has he considered the GT? You can't go wrong with AWD in NY.

Dodge Charger/Challengers usually lease better. Mustang has never been a great lease car.

Combine the fact that there is little to no incentives on the refreshed Mustang, of course it's going to lease worse.

The price seems high on that Challenger lease.

Do some research on leasehackr and look up the residuals/MF and go in and negotiate. Don't just go with what the dealer is giving you.

For that price he could get a R/T if he negotiates right..

If you don’t plan on modding the challengers are pretty solid cars. I’d look at used RTs. He can probably find a used 15 for the same price as a new V6

thats actually pretty high for a SXT

you can get a 392 scat for about that much

the 392 scat is better than my 15 GT, and it will blow the EB away.

lease prices on dodge products are insane. ford or chevy wont be able to match them.

I hope Dodge fixed up that 5.7. It was always a bit of a boat anchor. I remember the last time I test drove a 5.7 challenger. I'll say it did not compare favorably to the V6 Mustang.

My friend has an RT Plus that he got shortly after I got my V6 and we did a little stop light run a month or so ago, it wasn't any faster until we got up to around 60MPH, any sort of roll though and I'm sure he'd leave me behind. Car is pretty comfy too and can't beat the discounts they give you.

wow that 5.7 really is a dog huh. 0-60 in 5.1 sec vs 0-60 in 5.3 w/ the V6 s550.

glad i didn't consider anything lower than the 6.4L 392 chally

Congrats to your son, seems like a solid deal. The hemi + 8 speed combo is fantastic.

I have a Hemi Durango with the 8-speed. I'm at a loss as to how the 8-speed is helping me with fuel economy, especially given its complexity and cost. City I can manage 13 mpg, highway it'll go up to 22 if I'm 65 or below and it's an overall downhill, but more likely it'll do 20 mpg. It's a relatively smooth transmission with a few quirks that I'd hope would have been tuned out by my 2015 model, but they are rare. The transmission does well towing, but I didn't have a problem with either of my Silverados towing and they only had 6 gears (and both got better fuel economy city and highway). Eh... guess I'd have a chat with Ford and ask why they want a loan payment for a lease.

FWIW, we had a rental Charger SXT with the 8 speed auto and 3.6 v6 for three weeks. We got 28 to 30 mpg over that time driving it around town.
