It's pretty well established that cars running a stock tune will benefit from installing the PedalMAX (PM). A lot of us are uncertain, though, if this unit will work well on a tuned car.
I don't know about your S550, but mine is a dog from idle through 3.5K rpm, even with a tune. When simply rolling the throttle, it always seemed like the ECM was playing catch-up with my right foot
. I contacted Lund about it, and they were hesitant (credit to them) to tune-in more throttle, because of part-throttle surging. Since this problem irritates the ---- out of me, I looked for another solution. Google this, and google that.... I found a thread here about the PM, and I was sold. I figured if it works, cool, and if it doesn't, hopefully I can find someone without a tune who wants it.
I made the mistake of not buying it from Terry (didn't even know he carried it), and bought it on Amazon: huge mistake. When I got the unit a few days later, I installed it, and took the rowdy girl out for a test drive. I was immediately disappointed; the car was bogging badly, and I ended up disconnecting it. I contacted JMS about this, and they knew exactly what the problem was: I had version 2.1, not the latest 6.1:frusty::frusty: . The next day, a 6.1 module was headed my way :clap2:
My car:
Lund tuned with a NGauge, JLT, and Corsa catback.
JMS PedalMAX
What does it do?
-It boosts the voltage of the signal from the accelerator to the throttle body. My guess is it measures the signal from the throttle assembly, and constantly adjusts the voltage, providing a more agressive output to the ECM: just a theory.
Install:
This should not take more than 10-15 minutes. The hardest part of the install is getting under the dash. I'm about 230 on a good day lol. I won't bore you with a how-to. The directions are straightforward, and everything except diagonal-cut pliers (to cut the zip ties) is included; they even provide a small screwdriver. Also, there is a red connector included, some kind of attenuator maybe. It reduces throttle response by 40%. I threw it in the trash
My opinion:
I was skeptical about the PedalMAX. Looked like snake oil!! I'm not skeptical anymore. That dead space, from pedal movement to tire movement, is gone! I'm still learning how to drive the car with it installed though lol, because it wants to break the tires in first very quickly. The car doesn't surge or bog; it just goes
. There's no more winding the car out, stoplight to stoplight, just to keep up with traffic flow  All in all, my car is fun to drive again, and that makes the price of this thing worth every penny.
Thanks for reading :ford:
ALSO: if u have an old PedalMAX unit, JMS will swap it out, at no charge, for the newest module: just ask for Monty or Charlie
