It's pretty well established that cars running a stock tune will benefit from installing the PedalMAX (PM). A lot of us are uncertain, though, if this unit will work well on a tuned car.

I don't know about your S550, but mine is a dog from idle through 3.5K rpm, even with a tune. When simply rolling the throttle, it always seemed like the ECM was playing catch-up with my right foot  . I contacted Lund about it, and they were hesitant (credit to them) to tune-in more throttle, because of part-throttle surging. Since this problem irritates the ---- out of me, I looked for another solution. Google this, and google that.... I found a thread here about the PM, and I was sold. I figured if it works, cool, and if it doesn't, hopefully I can find someone without a tune who wants it.

I made the mistake of not buying it from Terry (didn't even know he carried it), and bought it on Amazon: huge mistake. When I got the unit a few days later, I installed it, and took the rowdy girl out for a test drive. I was immediately disappointed; the car was bogging badly, and I ended up disconnecting it. I contacted JMS about this, and they knew exactly what the problem was: I had version 2.1, not the latest 6.1:frusty::frusty: . The next day, a 6.1 module was headed my way :clap2:

My car:

Lund tuned with a NGauge, JLT, and Corsa catback.

JMS PedalMAX

What does it do?

-It boosts the voltage of the signal from the accelerator to the throttle body. My guess is it measures the signal from the throttle assembly, and constantly adjusts the voltage, providing a more agressive output to the ECM: just a theory.

Install:

This should not take more than 10-15 minutes. The hardest part of the install is getting under the dash. I'm about 230 on a good day lol. I won't bore you with a how-to. The directions are straightforward, and everything except diagonal-cut pliers (to cut the zip ties) is included; they even provide a small screwdriver. Also, there is a red connector included, some kind of attenuator maybe. It reduces throttle response by 40%. I threw it in the trash

My opinion:

I was skeptical about the PedalMAX. Looked like snake oil!! I'm not skeptical anymore. That dead space, from pedal movement to tire movement, is gone! I'm still learning how to drive the car with it installed though lol, because it wants to break the tires in first very quickly. The car doesn't surge or bog; it just goes :D . There's no more winding the car out, stoplight to stoplight, just to keep up with traffic flow  All in all, my car is fun to drive again, and that makes the price of this thing worth every penny.

Thanks for reading :ford:

ALSO: if u have an old PedalMAX unit, JMS will swap it out, at no charge, for the newest module: just ask for Monty or Charlie

Ordered mine from Terry today and am very excited to try this. My car has a Whipple SC and tune and I am hoping it will work as it has for many other people.

This thing seems to be the modern work around of the old TPS mod I used to do on my fox bodies. I used to enlarge the 2 holes of the TPS and turn it slightly with a voltage meter attached and increase the voltage then tighten it back down. It was pretty tricky to do but after a while it became an art lol.

Terry definitely has some of the best prices I've seen anywhere and great customer service. Very glad to know he is selling the updated version as well.

Man I want one now...The throttle response is killing me right now with this car. When I floor it...it just seems like the throttle is heavy and isn't accelerating like I thought I should.

It seems like I will be ordering one this week.

Thanks for the review!

I think you'll be happy :headbang:

Fingers crossed for ya brutha! That's my only regret, not supporting a forum vendor. Won't happen again :headbonk:

Does it plug in the same connector as the JMS BAP? If so, I would assume there are no issues hooking it up?

Thought the BAP was installed in the trunk? The PM installs in-line with the throttle assembly under the dash.

It does but there is a TPS cable that installs into the peddle.

Crap, wish this was mentioned before I ordered mine lol. I have a BAP with my Whipple and now I will have to check if it is connected to my pedal (installed by Tasca). As far as I knew it was plug & play in the trunk with a vacuum hose that went to engine bay???

EDIT: After a quick web search it looks like the MSD BAP does not use the pedal connection. It is plug & play in the trunk and has a vacuum hose which connects to the manifold so, good to go!

Yeah the JMS uses pedal position to "bring it in". You can choose ramp rates and such. No vacuum line going to the engine compartment. You can activate a Hobbs switch if you want to.

I'd contact JMS directly. Possibly the have a splitter? I doubt they'd engineer products that weren't compatible.

What's the difference between this and putting it in track mode? Track mode with my Lund tune is much snappier than drive mode and Lund tune...

I posted this on a different thread. I would like to repost here, in case the OP or others could provide some insight. I hope this is within the etiquette of the forum. If not, I'll delete and rely just on the other thread. Here we go.

I am interested in getting this product. Here are some questions I have.

I have an auto. I don't like sports, sports+, or track because of where I drive most of the time. I drive in the city most of the time. In these other drive modes, the car feels jerky whenever I slow down or release the gas pedal to a cruising stop. The computer wants to put the car into a lower gear so that when I accelerate, more power is gain quicker (at least that's what I assume). While that's nice, I hate that the car jerks when it switches to a lower gear. I prefer the smoothness of normal mode.

But the throttle response is so slow in normal mode. My question is this. Will this product improve the throttle response in normal mode AND maintain it's characteristic? Meaning, will the throttle response improve without having the jerkiness of the other modes?

I like how smooth normal mode is when I slow down or let off the pedal. I don't want to lose that if my throttle is improved with this product. I might as well stay in the other modes if that's the case.

Last question, does this product affect the mpg? I assume it does?

Thanks.

Don't quote me, but I believe Lund programs throttle response via PCM manipulation. Not sure... This boosts voltage to the throttle body ECM; it's a little different.

Maybe someone with an auto can chime in. I have the exquisite MT-82
