Wow, see that's what you get when you try to pass information to help others out.

You guys, (Wblv17 Blk2015GT) are absolutely right, you need to pull the foam out that was installed with two sided tape from the Side Air Curtain Ports, because they wanted them to stay in there only on the 20 inch wheel package models so that the dealer can remove them. Oh wait, if you have the Performance Package, or just a GT or Ecoboost Performance Package like you guys do, you couldn't possibly know, CAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE THE 20's............

You guys are awesome! said no one....
nope just know that the overall dimesion of the front tires is virtally the same and that mine had that foam in bumper when unloaded off the truck. I don't want foam that will fall apart in a years time I know that for sure.

Regular GT premium car came that way from the dealership upon pickup with no foam. Supposed to be removed at PDI, obviously not all dealerships did. Has no relationship to wheels or trim line; just dealership people who likely didn't even know it was there

As as follow-up, I contacted Ford and Ford Racing [email protected], they replied back, "cars that are factory equipped with 20” wheels get the aero curtains blocked off", without the explanation why. I stated the explanation previously as I also stated that Ford Engineering is way smarter than you think.

So, again, if you have the factory 20's, and you took the foam blocks out because you listened to someone's opinion, your car is not the way that the FoMoCo factory and Ford engineering designed it. I'd put them back. They are available at the dealer....

So, Blk2105GT, Wblv17 and all others that just opined about the issue, as I stated before, your wrong. There was a reason Ford Engineering intentionally installed the Foam Blocks on the cars equipped with 20 inch wheels...it wasn't for the PDI's guys at the dealer to overlook, it is because of the stance and width of the wheels past the fenders.

Apologies accepted!

Wow good to know that is why my car came with the foam. At this point I really don't care I think a lot of people are getting aftermarket wheels and tire anyways.

There was another thread where this was being discussed. It seemed odd to me to have a Ford part number plus adhesive on these inserts just for "shipping purposes". It made sense that the wheels would drive this change because of how they stick out into the airflow path. I had thought something similar but others also thought it made no sense.

Thanks for sharing what you found. And yes, on my 18" wheel-equipped car, I did not have these, nor were they removed during the PDI. I can verify that because I was there within an hour after the car got off the truck and before it got checked over.

The 2013 Shelby GT500 I own was $66,900 MSRP because of the Track Pack Option, the RECARO Option and the SVT Performance Pack Option. All Aftermarket Boutique Items, Brembo, Bilstien, Recaro, Carbon Fiber DS, F1 Semi Slicks etc. But they were installed at SVT and carry a Ford Warranty.
Technically, they were installed at the Flat Rock plant, not a separate facility which is dedicated to SVT vehicles. There is no SVT manufacturing location.

You are correct, I meant installed by SVT, not at SVT. Jamaal Hameedi, at that time, Chief Engineer, SVT, actually signed my 2013 GT500 for me. He is the reason that I am sure that the Engineers at Ford are among the best in the business, real nice guy. He actually signed an extra Mustang Engine Bay Fuse Box Cover for a spare.

And you, sir, have a cool car! The SVT engineers are focused people with an amazingly focused mission. I believe they tested the smokin' 5.8L engine to 200 mph. Any foam might have blown off at those speeds :)

I just read this thread. I have 20" wheels and I have the foam inserts.

My plan is to take them out. Compare 3 tanks of gas for fuel economy vs my previous averages. Also I will see if I notice any other driving dynamics changes.

Then I will decide if the inserts go back in or not.

Mine are out and won't ever go back in. They were my first "mod". ;)

I just checked at lunch today. Mine are still in. I called the dealer and my salesman simply stated, "You've got 20s, we don't take them out." When I asked why he said he really didn't know, it was just what Ford says to do. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry to bump an old thread but was there ever an actual reason given to leave the foam in for the 20 inch wheel cars? And should they be taken out or left in.

I have 20's and I have the foam. Its to bad they didn't allow this air to go strait to the front brakes to help cool them down!

I have 20's and took mine out. I have not noticed any negative or positive side effects.
