Does anyone know why the aero curtain inlets on the front fascia of the 2018 are blocked off on some models but not on others? Something I noticed after getting my 18 and can't find any information about it.

There was a thread about this with no clear answer.

It's only blocked on PP cars, right? The front wheels are too wide thus eliminating the aerodynamic wheel curtain that the vent would create, and instead just tumbles into the contact patch of the tire.

My guess.

That would make sense. Mine is a PP and the edge of the tire is pretty much right in line with the vent in the wheel well

You would have thought that with the extra money in the PP they could have putting a little more effort into modifying it so it would work since IMO, that would be a great feature for a track car... not the other way around.

Search YouTube for the Ford 2015 aero video. My recollection is the facia corner vents are drag reduction by smoothing the air flow around the tires and along the side of the car.

We know that, we're trying to figure out why it's blocked off on the 2018 PP cars

they are blocked off on the 15-17s with the 20" wheels.

So that's more evidence pointing towards the wheels being too wide to benefit from having them. Weird thing is that my 16 GT PP didn't have them blocked off but my 18 has the same wheels

Sorry. My mistake. I assume you have an 18 GTPP and there are no openings behind the fascia like the 15 - 18 GTPP has.

I snipped a still from a video at a car show from a "forged wheel" version of a GTPP. That prototype has the opening. That car has "daylight" visible through the opening.

I haven't been able to find a similar shot of a GTPP with the black wheels in my collection of videos and still pics.

I'll see mine which has the black PP wheels in a few weeks. :D
