I have the GT350 FRPP/Borla Touring cat-back and it is a very loud and raspy system. So much so that I thought my system had been mislabeled...but I had an issue and Borla sent me new touring mufflers...and they sounded the same. So, I can't imagine how much louder and raspier the sport would be actually. It sounds great, and very 'GT350 like', but just too loud and raspy for me on my daily driver. The car would sound pretty bad-ass on the track I'm sure. Did I mention it's raspy?Hi all, sorry for reusing this thread - I just want to ask about differences between sport and touring variants.
I am just about to start modding my 2016 GT and would like to start with exhaust.
I love the look of this FRPP quad tip setup, but am unable to decide which route to take (touring / sport and axle-back / cat-back).
I am not using my Mustang for daily driving, it's rather fun car than A->B vehicle. I definitelly want it to be more noticable in the streets, but would like to avoid any drone when cruising on highways.
At the beginning I thought Touring axle-back would do the trick, but after reading through the forum I got impression that it's too quiet (almost like stock) setup, so I was thinking about Sport axle-back and later in case I would like it to sound more raspy I would simply go for x-pipe.
What are your thoughts? Is there anybody who was in the same situation? Any advice?
All other Borla touring systems utilize a center resonator to tone down the sport version. The GT350 does not...it has the same x-pipe as the sport setup. The mufflers look the same as well, but I suppose they have some internal differences. Whatever the case may be, I purchased the Borla center resonator, which is smaller and lighter than the factory resonator, and I got the result I wanted. The sound is totally different from stock, deep idle, nice tone, definitely louder, and zero rasp or drone. 12k miles later and I'm very satisfied.
I haven't looked lately, but when I got mine (from levittown), the cat-back and axle-back were pretty much the same price. I already had a MRT H-pipe, but decided to go cat-back and have all new exhaust, because of the price. Now I have an x-pipe (made for my system) if I ever want to remove the resonator and go back to it.
Good luck with it. Whatever you decide, I think you'll be pleased.
