I would get a Camaro 1LE or a Bullitt Mustang....but that is just me.

I'm not even a vette guy, but for strictly weekends and track days it seems the vette is going to be an easy choice.

I have a C7 Z06 for sunny fun days but I wouldn't daily it in all conditions. For daily use, but still fun enough, I am looking at getting a Mustang GT.

Round 1 is Complete. I went from the Hertz rental at KMIA to Southernmost Point, Key West.

VIDEO

Based on the VIN I had a: 2017 Ford Mustang GT Fastback, VIN: 1FA6P8CFXH5323951
Details of which can seemingly be found here: https://themustangsource.com/forums/vindecoder.php
(is there one of these on this forum?)

I reset Trip 1 at the very beginning. This is what I had 'on the clock' when I returned the Mustang the next morning. Over 11hrs of fun time (I filled up once)

I can't fit in a Corvette so they suck. Make the front seat adjustable and I may change my mind. Not everyone is a 5'8" midget.

I would never waste my money on renting. It is just as easy to take one from a dealer, for an extended overnight test-drive.

The two cars in question are sooooo different, it doesn't make any sense to decide between them.

Exactly. As a weekend car, Vette is ok. But they have tons of road noise and suck getting in and out. The stock gearing also sucks as does the stock shifter.

I find the Mustang way easier to live with personally even as a weekend car, especially whippled. Although my gas mileage is around 13-14 which truly sucks.

I agree with you on road noise, and if you take the carbon fiber top off forget about it, but you do get to hear the glorious V8 :)

In terms of gearing I have a 16 Z51 and like the gearing and the stock 7 speed is a very good gearbox. It's a little more mechanical than others I have owned and it takes a little while to get used to some of the throws (some people miss 2nd and go to 4th) but once you are used to it the throws are precise and short.

I agree that the cars are very different. I love my C7 in terms of driving dynamics and styling. So many people stop me from young to old. But it's more of a toy vs a Mustang. Not as comfortable, lots of road noise, you get the old man label, and if you live in places with snow and bad weather they end up sitting in the garage way too much.

Road noise is easy to get rid of you just spend an afternoon putting in some sound deadening materials. I have done it for my C6, C7 Z51 and will do so in the C7 Z06 once it warms up.

The getting in and out of can be difficult but that depends on the person. I have back issues and can get in and out easy enough.

That being said the Z06 will be my sunny day driver and the Mustang (if I get my way, if the wife wins it will be a BMW) will be the DD.

Round 2 coming up next Saturday.

I imagine it will mostly be convincing myself that the GT is the better choice overall :D

I would be remiss to not confirm that with a simple rental. :)
